Job Description
The Governor's Prevention Partnership is a reputable non-profit organization based in East Hartford, Connecticut. With a mission focused on advancing prevention strategies and fostering healthier communities, it operates across various programs including marketing, development, and operational initiatives. The organization offers a collaborative and dynamic work environment where team members work together to promote impactful community programs, events, and outreach efforts that support youth and families. Known for its commitment to providing meaningful experiential learning opportunities, The Governor's Prevention Partnership actively integrates students and interns into its teams to cultivate practical skills and professional growth within the nonprofit sector.
This temporary, unpaid internship position offers a valuable opportunity for students interested in gaining hands-on experience in event planning, coordination, and program support within a non-profit setting. The Event Planner Intern will report directly to the Director of Business Operations and will be based in a hybrid role located in East Hartford, blending both remote work and in-person event involvement. This internship is designed to align with academic programs related to marketing, communications, public administration, or event management, providing real-world exposure to event logistics, stakeholder coordination, and data-driven program evaluation.
In this role, the intern will support a broad variety of events including conferences, galas, fundraising initiatives, community outreach activities, staff trainings, and webinars. The intern will gain insights into all phases of event development and execution by assisting with creating event timelines, managing run-of-show schedules, compiling task lists, and handling key administrative duties. On the day of the event, the intern will experience on-site coordination responsibilities such as setting up venues, managing registration processes, and directing volunteers and staff. In addition to operational duties, the intern will engage in post-event evaluation efforts by collecting attendee feedback, compiling event data, and preparing comprehensive reports summarizing outcomes and recommendations for future improvements.
Throughout the internship, students will benefit from professional mentorship provided by qualified staff with expertise in program development, evaluation, policy analysis, and community engagement. The Governor's Prevention Partnership encourages interns to actively participate in designing their workload and projects, ensuring that their educational goals and the organization’s needs are both effectively met. This flexible internship structure supports students pursuing various majors and career paths by offering tailored responsibilities within a fast-paced and mission-driven nonprofit environment.
Interns typically commit 12 to 15 hours weekly, with opportunities to increase hours based on academic requirements or availability. Although the position is unpaid, some internship roles may include a stipend depending on specific program funding. Candidates suitable for this internship are enthusiastic, self-motivated, and possess strong organizational skills, proficiency in computer applications, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. This internship enables students to build foundational competencies in event planning, program administration, and community outreach, preparing them for successful careers in nonprofit management or related fields.
