The role of the Event Monitor at California State University, Stanislaus, is a vital support position within the Fundraising and Special Events team. Classified as a casual hourly-intermittent worker, the Event Monitor will help ensure events on campus run efficiently, safely, and professionally, adhering to university policies and providing excellent customer service. This position is temporary with appointments potentially lasting through June 30, 2026, and offers an hourly wage of $20.00. The Event Monitor plays a collaborative role in all stages of event management, including preparation, on-site coordination during events, communication with vendors and clients, and post-event follow-up. The position requires working varied hours and in-person attendance at events, sometimes requiring indoor and outdoor duties under different conditions.
Key responsibilities include attending assigned events to oversee compliance with university policies, conducting event set-ups and verifying vendor deliveries, inspecting the event environment to confirm cleanliness and equipment functionality, and serving as the main contact for clients during events to ensure satisfaction. Job Requirements
- High school diploma
- minimum of one year of customer service experience
- valid California driver’s license
- access to email and internet for communication
- ability to work indoors and outdoors in various temperatures and terrain
- ability to walk, stand, lift/carry items up to 10 lbs constantly
- ability to frequently concentrate, make decisions, sit, bend, lift/carry items up to 25 lbs, stoop, kneel, squat, push, pull, reach overhead
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma
- minimum of one year of customer service experience
- completion of at least two years of college coursework equivalent to 60 semester units in hospitality, event management, communications, public administration, or related field preferred
- minimum of six months experience supporting event coordination, facilities setup, or customer service in a professional setting preferred
- familiarity with basic office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and ability to manage digital forms and timekeeping submissions preferred
- prior experience in higher education or public sector setting desirable
- thorough knowledge of customer service and working with the public
- ability to remain calm under pressure
- excellent communication skills
Job Duties
- Attend assigned events and monitor activities to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures
- conduct event set-up
- receive and verify rental deliveries from vendors
- inspect event locations to ensure cleanliness, proper functioning of equipment, appropriate temperature settings, and accuracy of the setup
- serve as point of contact for clients during events
- provide assistance, respond to questions, and ensure client satisfaction
- direct unauthorized groups away from reserved event spaces
- coordinate with food service providers and vendors to adhere to event schedules
- communicate changes as needed
- promptly report emergencies to appropriate authorities and inform the standby supervisor
- gather post-event feedback from clients and vendors
- submit an event summary for internal documentation
- respond to and select open shifts
- assist with office-based event preparation including compiling event brief materials
- review event details in advance to ensure readiness
- participate in required meetings and training sessions including mandatory annual trainings
- submit monthly time sheets via university’s MyCSUSTAN portal
- return university equipment and keys after each event
- perform other duties as assigned
