This exciting opportunity is based at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, the largest meeting and exhibition venue in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This premier facility offers 178,159 square feet of contiguous exhibit hall space, a 30,550 square foot grand ballroom, and 50,000 square feet of additional meeting room space, accommodating a wide range of events from conventions and exhibitions to concerts and cultural celebrations. Situated centrally in the capital city of Richmond, Virginia, the venue is ideally positioned between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, making it a sought-after destination for regional, national, and international events.
The Event Manager role reports to the Director of Event Services and plays a pivotal role in the flawless execution of multiple concurrent events. This position encompasses the full event lifecycle, including advance planning, onsite supervision during events, and post-event follow-up. Event Managers act as the critical link between facility users, venue staff, service providers, public safety agencies, and other stakeholders, ensuring seamless communication and coordination. They are responsible for fostering exceptional customer and lessee satisfaction through meticulous organization, strong leadership, and proactive problem-solving.
With a salary range of $58,000 to $73,000 and full-time benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with matching, and paid time off including vacation, sick days, and holidays, this is a highly rewarding career opportunity. The role requires flexibility as Event Managers must be available for long nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays to oversee event operations. They lead teams of venue and security staff, develop staffing schedules, manage resource allocation, and provide continuous guidance to deliver outstanding event experiences.
Further responsibilities include preparing the venue for upcoming events, managing event financial estimates and settlements, liaising with independent contractors, and maintaining safety and security standards in collaboration with local authorities. The Event Manager also plays an important role in emergency planning, equipment maintenance, hospitality arrangements, and payroll preparation for event staff. Serving as Manager on Duty as scheduled, the Event Manager provides leadership and assurance that all events are conducted smoothly and to the highest standards.
This role demands strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Candidates should have a strong background in event management within public assembly venues such as stadiums, arenas, or convention centers. The position not only offers the chance to work with a prestigious organization but also to contribute to the vibrant and growing events landscape at a landmark facility.
