Behind the Scenes (BTS) is a leading, well-established hospitality company based in San Diego, California. With over 35 years of experience, BTS has built a remarkable reputation serving a diverse range of clients including corporations, private clients, major sporting events such as the Super Bowl, Farmers Insurance Open, Rose Bowl, and the Olympics, as well as news broadcast companies like NBC, and large concert tours and corporate marketing tours worldwide. The company thrives on delivering exceptional hospitality services on a grand scale, managing large-scale events across the globe with professionalism and precision.

BTS operates within the hospitality industry, specializing in event management and catering services that support an array of high-profile events. Their commitment to excellence extends to all facets of event planning and execution, from warehouse operations and logistics to on-site management and client satisfaction. BTS places a high value on continual development and training of its team members to maintain their high standards.

The position of Event Manager I at Behind the Scenes offers a dynamic and challenging role designed for experienced event professionals looking to advance their career within a reputable and progressive hospitality company. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Event Manager I plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth execution of onsite events. This full-time role demands 40-50 hours per week, reflecting the nature of the hospitality and events industry where flexibility and commitment are essential. The salary range is competitive, offering between $70,000 to $74,000 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

The primary responsibilities of the Event Manager I include managing and developing service employees and newer Event Managers, maintaining menu integrity, coordinating with the onsite kitchen team, ensuring timely service and proper setup, overseeing cleanup and load-out, and managing overall operations of catering areas at assigned events. This role requires close communication with the Sales Manager and Executive Chef both before and after events to ensure all event details are handled efficiently and that any client feedback is addressed promptly.

Key aspects of the role involve warehouse general operations such as proper use of the HCMtogo app for shift tracking, time management, inventory control, and the organization of equipment and supplies post-event. The Event Manager I also acts as a liaison between the warehouse and event sales teams, ensuring that all event preparation—including decor, food, and equipment pulls—is completed on time.

On event days, the Event Manager I reports to the warehouse to ensure all materials are accounted for and then proceeds to the event location to perform a detailed walkthrough with the client, establish clear communication channels among front-of-house staff, and oversee the event timeline to assure smooth service according to plan. From coordinating uniforms and grooming standards to managing dietary restrictions and service call-outs, the Event Manager I ensures high standards of quality throughout the event.

Additionally, the Event Manager I is responsible for event load-out and wrap-up, overseeing detailed equipment and food inventory, ensuring the cleanliness of the event space after the event, and assisting with vehicle unloading upon return to the warehouse. This role also includes responsibilities related to staff training, onboarding new event staff, and facilitating learning for Event Managers II and III.

The ideal candidate is a team-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to adapt to changing demands, and physical capability to handle lifting, prolonged standing, and work in various physical conditions involving exposure to cleaning supplies and solvents. The candidate must also hold a valid driving record and be capable of operating company vehicles including vans and box trucks.

This position offers a unique opportunity for career growth in a challenging, fast-paced environment where committed professionals can thrive while contributing to some of the most prestigious and well-known events in the world. The Event Manager I will be a vital asset to the BTS team, embodying the company’s values of excellence, teamwork, and service quality at every event they manage.
