The Events Manager position at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring the seamless execution of various events by coordinating and mobilizing necessary internal resources. This position serves as the primary liaison between clients and internal departments, handling all aspects of event planning, coordination, and on-site management. The role requires a flexible schedule, including availability for long hours, weekends, nights, and holidays depending on event demands. An Events Manager is expected to provide guidance and counsel to clients, facilitate communication across departments, and execute operational plans effectively to guarantee client satisfaction. Key responsibilities include event logistics management, client advisement, contract administration, internal communications, and on-site event leadership. The successful candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and skilled at multitasking in a fast-paced environment. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills are essential, as is experience working with unions and managing large-scale conventions or trade shows with attendance exceeding 5,000 people. Proficiency with software tools such as Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Ungerboeck, Social Tables, and 22 Miles is also required. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality, event planning, sports management or related field
  • Minimum two years experience managing large conventions or trade shows
  • Experience coordinating with unions and service contractors
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and specialized event software
  • Physical ability to stand for long hours and walk extensively during events
  • Professional demeanor and presentation

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality, event planning, sports management or related field
  • Two years experience in convention or trade show operations with attendance over 5,000
  • Experience working with unions such as audiovisual, stagehands, production and setup staff
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or in teams
  • Professional presentation and work ethic
  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Ungerboeck, Social Tables and 22 Miles

Job Duties

  • Advise, guide, counsel and meet with assigned clients regarding event details and logistics
  • Gather and organize all event information including agenda, room, labor, electrical and security needs
  • Respond to client inquiries or direct them to appropriate internal departments
  • Advise clients and partners on facility procedures, policies, rules and regulations
  • Quote prices for operational and labor services not in the event agreement
  • Communicate detailed requirements to operational departments
  • Process last minute client changes and notify relevant parties
  • Be present and act as manager on duty during event execution
  • Coordinate with finance on event invoicing
