Job Description

U.S. Hunger is a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to combating hunger by mobilizing communities and corporations to pack meals that nourish those in need. With a remarkable impact of providing over 190 million meals across the United States, U.S. Hunger is at the forefront of creating positive change through volunteer-driven hunger relief projects. This organization champions collaboration and community involvement to address food insecurity and bring people together in meaningful ways. As a leader in its field, U.S. Hunger offers an inspiring environment for individuals passionate about making a tangible difference while enjoying a flexible work culture.

The role of Event Lead at U.S. Hunger is an exciting, flexible, and event-based position designed for individuals who thrive in active, community-oriented settings. Event Leads play a pivotal role in coordinating and leading meal packing events, ensuring these activities are not only well-executed but also impactful, engaging, and enjoyable for volunteers and partner organizations. This position requires individuals who are based in the Central Florida area due to the frequent local events and the necessity to travel, often out of Orlando International Airport (MCO), to lead projects nationally. The role offers a competitive wage of $20 per hour and involves up to 75% travel time, demanding a commitment to attend in person when signed up for events.

Training is comprehensive, combining both virtual and in-person sessions that effectively prepare Event Leads for their multifaceted responsibilities. Training includes one virtual day on May 6th, an intensive in-person period in Central Florida from May 15th to 17th, and a series of virtual training days from May 18th to 21st. This preparation equips Event Leads to manage logistics, volunteer relations, and event execution with confidence and professionalism.

As the face of U.S. Hunger during events, the Event Lead is responsible for welcoming volunteers, emceeing the event, guiding participants through best practices, and ensuring a safe and efficient operational flow. The role is hands-on, involving physical tasks such as loading and unloading shipments, managing equipment setup, and enforcing food safety standards. Additionally, Event Leads maintain excellent communication with partners and team members before, during, and after events to foster strong relationships and positive experiences.

Those in this role will lead teams consisting of staff and key volunteers, delegating responsibilities effectively to achieve successful outcomes. They also handle the coordination of meal pickups with distribution partners, keep accurate records of deliveries, and contribute to reporting and feedback mechanisms that enhance the organization's impact. This role offers a unique blend of leadership, logistics, and community engagement that makes every day rewarding for those committed to fighting hunger through collaborative action.

Joining U.S. Hunger as an Event Lead means becoming part of a passionate team dedicated to making a difference while enjoying an engaging and fun work atmosphere. This position is perfect for individuals who enjoy public speaking, building connections, leading teams, and actively contributing to a vital social cause. If you desire a role that combines meaningful work with flexibility and travel opportunities, the Event Lead position at U.S. Hunger in Central Florida provides a compelling career path to pursue.
