Job Description

U.S. Hunger is a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting hunger by mobilizing volunteers and communities to pack and distribute nutritious meals. With over 190 million meals packed and delivered across the United States, U.S. Hunger works closely with corporations, schools, congregations, and various other organizations to coordinate impactful meal packing events that provide vital support to communities in need. This organization places great importance on community engagement, team collaboration, and making a meaningful difference in addressing food insecurity nationwide.

U.S. Hunger is currently hiring part-time Event Leads based in the Central Florida area to join their dynamic and passionate team. This role offers a unique blend of flexibility and hands-on involvement as it is event-based, allowing individuals to sign up for events that suit their schedules. However, committed attendance and physical presence at assigned events are mandatory. The Event Lead will play a critical role in overseeing meal packing events, managing volunteers, and ensuring smooth event execution. This position requires both local facilitation of events primarily held in Central Florida and travel as needed to other locations, with flights departing from Orlando International Airport (MCO). All travel expenses are covered, and the role offers a competitive pay rate of $20 per hour.

The Event Lead position is ideal for those who love interacting with people, enjoy working in vibrant event settings with engaging music and community energy, and have a passion for contributing directly to a humanitarian cause. Comprehensive training is required and includes a blend of virtual and in-person sessions designed to prepare the individual thoroughly for the responsibilities involved. Training sessions span several days in early-to-mid May, providing detailed instruction on event management, volunteer coordination, and logistical procedures.

As an Event Lead, the individual will serve as the primary point of contact on the day of the event, responsible for delivering a successful, engaging, and impactful experience for both volunteers and partners. Key duties involve emceeing the event, guiding teams, managing event logistics, coordinating setup and breakdown, ensuring adherence to food safety guidelines, and maintaining excellent communication with all stakeholders. The position demands excellent organizational skills, an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and proficiency in public speaking and interpersonal communication.

In addition to working at local events, this role may involve up to 75 percent travel, requiring adaptability and a readiness to lead events of varying sizes and scopes across the country. Event Leads will also be responsible for post-event reporting to evaluate effectiveness and contribute to continuous improvement efforts within the organization. This dynamic opportunity blends community service, leadership, event management, and travel, providing a fulfilling career path for those committed to making a tangible difference in the fight against hunger.
