Job Description
U.S. Hunger is a compassionate and purpose-driven nonprofit organization based in Orlando, Florida, dedicated to tackling hunger and food insecurity across the United States. With a monumental impact having provided over 190 million meals to communities nationwide, U.S. Hunger is on the forefront of organizing large-scale meal packing events. These events bring together corporations, schools, religious congregations, and community organizations to create a united front against hunger. As a key player in the fight against food insecurity, U.S. Hunger nurtures an environment that values community, teamwork, and social responsibility. This organization is renowned for its commitment to delivering measurable impact and fostering an encouraging, inclusive atmosphere for volunteers, partners, and staff alike.
The current opening is for an Event Lead, a dynamic and influential role designed for those who enjoy connecting with people, managing teams, and orchestrating successful events that make a real difference. This is a flexible, part-time, event-based position primarily based in the Central Florida area, explicitly requiring physical presence at events and an enthusiastic presence that energizes volunteers and attendees. Although flexible, this role involves up to 75 percent travel, with events often held locally around Orlando or regionally requiring air travel from the Orlando International Airport (MCO) with all expenses covered by the organization. The role comes with a competitive pay of $20 per hour.
As an Event Lead at U.S. Hunger, you will be the driving force behind the seamless execution of Hunger Projects – meal packing events that engage diverse groups to assemble nutritious meals for those in need. Responsibilities encompass overseeing event setup and breakdown, managing logistics, and leading volunteer teams throughout each project. You will serve as the face and voice of U.S. Hunger, emceeing events, delivering exceptional customer service to partners, and ensuring that every event runs according to schedule while meeting food safety requirements. The role demands a high degree of initiative and leadership: you will delegate responsibilities, liaise with various stakeholders including meal distribution partners and event hosts, and ensure paperwork and follow-up reports are meticulously completed.
The role also involves intensive training to prepare you for success, including a virtual training day, multiple in-person training sessions in Central Florida, and several virtual training days, all designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to lead high-impact events. This comprehensive training underscores the organization's commitment to thorough preparation and the ongoing professional growth of its team members.
The position is perfect for individuals who thrive in energetic environments, enjoy public speaking, and have a passion for social causes such as hunger relief. It offers the opportunity to work with a motivated team, develop leadership skills, and directly contribute to innovative solutions fighting food insecurity. Join U.S. Hunger and become part of a movement that combines fun, community spirit, and the mission to change lives for the better.
