Job Description
Michaels is a leading North American specialty retailer that focuses on arts and crafts supplies, custom framing, floral arrangements, and home décor. The company operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the U.S. and Canada, along with a strong online presence. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has built a reputation as the go-to venue for creativity and celebration for both hobbyists and professionals alike. Its commitment to fueling creativity is evident in its broad product assortment and the wide range of crafting classes and events it offers to engage communities. Dedicated to fostering inclusive and creative environments, Michaels prioritizes customer satisfaction and team member wellbeing through comprehensive benefits and a culture of respect and support.
The role based in the Warwick, Rhode Island store involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events within the store environment, including children’s birthday parties and other craft-related classes or celebrations. This position is designed to ensure that guests, regardless of age, have a fun, engaging, and stress-free experience while participating in Michaels events. In addition to event coordination, this role includes delivering excellent customer service by helping customers navigate the store, providing product guidance, and ensuring a quick and friendly checkout process.
The Event Coordinator will be responsible for managing multiple events simultaneously, demonstrating crafts and activities such as face painting, setting up party add-ons including balloons and goody bags, and tailoring events based on client feedback to maximize satisfaction. Effective communication with clients and store teams is essential, as well as executing administrative duties like responding to emails, phone calls, and event paperwork. A strong emphasis is also placed on maintaining the store’s cleanliness and safety standards before, during, and after events.
This role also encompasses broad retail duties including assisting with truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery, and adhering to visual presentation standards. The successful candidate must support the company’s shrink and safety programs, adhere to standard operating procedures, and actively participate in store cleanliness and upkeep. Cross-training opportunities are available, including in custom framing sales and production.
Michaels values energetic and enthusiastic individuals who possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to handle job stress, and excellent communication abilities. Experience working with children and organizing events geared towards young participants is highly preferred, as is retail and customer service experience. The role requires standing for long periods, bending, lifting, and moving within the store environment, with some work involving ladders and outdoor tasks.
The position offers a competitive pay range of $16.00 to $18.80 per hour. Michaels is equally committed to diversity, inclusion, and providing reasonable accommodations to support team members and applicants with disabilities. The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer dedicated to creating an environment where everyone can innovate and contribute their best. Benefits provided include health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts, making Michaels a supportive workplace for part-time and full-time employees alike.
