Job Description
The Michaels Companies, Inc. is a leading destination for creativity and celebration, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, with a strong online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels is renowned for its wide selection of craft supplies, custom framing products, and numerous creative tools that inspire millions of customers every day. Michaels also owns Artistree, a manufacturer that specializes in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further enhancing the company’s product offerings and services. With a mission to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration, Michaels prioritizes inclusivity, well-being, and a positive shopping experience for its customers and team members alike.
This part-time position at the Michaels store located in Santa Fe, NM, centers on event coordination and delivering outstanding customer service while supporting the store’s operational needs. The role involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes, to create engaging and memorable experiences for guests of all ages. The event coordinator is responsible for ensuring that each event runs smoothly, meets company standards, and fulfills clients’ expectations, all while fostering a fun and creative environment.
Key responsibilities include managing all aspects of event logistics, from setting up and breaking down event spaces to handling administrative tasks such as communicating with clients, updating store team members, and modifying event plans as needed to respond to client feedback. Additional duties include demonstrating craft projects, face painting, facilitating party add-ons like goody bags and balloons, and upholding store cleanliness and safety standards. The role demands strong organizational and interpersonal skills, creativity, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Beyond event coordination, this position plays a vital part in delivering excellent customer service by assisting shoppers, ensuring a fast and friendly checkout experience, and engaging customers about the store’s rewards program and private label credit cards. The role also supports various store operations, including truck unloading, merchandising duties, inventory stocking, planogram compliance, and participating in store safety and shrinkage prevention programs. Team members will be cross-trained in custom framing sales and production, adding a valuable skill set to their responsibilities.
The Michaels organization fosters a team-oriented atmosphere where positive and respectful interactions are paramount, even in challenging situations. This role requires an energetic and enthusiastic personality with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers and coworkers across diverse age groups. Physical demands include prolonged standing, walking throughout the store, bending, lifting, and reaching, with some duties involving climbing ladders or handling heavy boxes. Safety and accommodation are important concerns, and Michaels is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals.
Michaels offers robust benefits to part-time team members, including health insurance options (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts, reflecting the company’s commitment to employee well-being and growth. This opportunity is perfect for those who are passionate about creativity, enjoy working in retail and event environments, and wish to contribute to a vibrant and dynamic team at a well-established and respected brand.
