The role available at the Michaels store in Alexandria, VA, focuses on event coordination and customer experience within a retail environment. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes. The goal is to provide a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience for guests of all ages, creating an atmosphere that encourages creativity and celebration. This job requires a team player who can engage with clients from young children to seniors with an energetic and enthusiastic personality. Responsibilities also include delivering friendly customer service, assisting customers in finding products, providing solutions, and ensuring a fast and friendly checkout experience.
In addition to event coordination and customer service, this role involves operational duties such as truck unloading, merchandise stocking, planogram execution, and store recovery maintenance. The successful candidate will handle multiple events simultaneously, demonstrating crafts, face painting, and organizing party add-ons like goody bags and balloons in accordance with company standards. Communication with clients and store teams is essential, along with administrative tasks like answering emails and making phone calls. Candidates must be flexible to adjust plans based on client feedback and ready with backup strategies to ensure client satisfaction.
The position requires strong organizational, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills, combined with excellent communication abilities in verbal, written, and nonverbal forms. Prior experience working with children’s events and retail or customer service is required. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, bending, lifting moderately heavy boxes, and accessing high shelves via ladders or equipment. The work environment is primarily a public retail store with controlled ambient conditions, though some stockrooms and outdoor areas may vary. Working hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings.
Michaels prides itself on creating a positive workplace culture where team members uphold company values by interacting respectfully and serving as role models. Additional training such as custom framing selling and production is part of the role to ensure comprehensive customer service. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual passionate about creativity, customer interaction, and event coordination within a supportive retail environment.
