Serving the needs of thousands of students, faculty, and visitors, the university also hosts numerous events throughout the year that require professional, high-quality service staff. The Event Bartender position plays a vital role in ensuring these events run smoothly and guests enjoy exceptional hospitality experiences.

The Event Bartender at Texas Tech is responsible for serving a variety of beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, during university events. This part-time role offers an hourly wage ranging from $12.00 to $16.00 and is tip eligible, presenting a great opportunity for individuals looking to earn income while building their service skills in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The position requires excellent attendance and dependability as bartender schedules depend on event bookings in line with business demands. Additionally, part-time employees are eligible to participate in the university’s 401(k) savings plan and 401(k) matching, providing an excellent foundation for financial planning and retirement benefits.

In this role, the bartender must be personable and professional, effortlessly adjusting to the changing pace and demands of different events. Maintaining compliance with state and federal alcohol laws is critical, alongside upholding Texas Tech’s high standards for uniform presentation and guest interactions. Bartenders engage directly with guests, providing attentive and courteous service while also handling cash accurately and maintaining a clean and sanitary bar station throughout events. They are also tasked with upselling products, managing inventory, and responding appropriately to any guest concerns or safety issues that may arise during the event.

The ideal candidate should have at least six months of bartending experience and demonstrate skill in cash handling and task prioritization within fast-paced settings. Strong interpersonal and communication capabilities are essential, as is the ability to remain self-directed while contributing positively to team efforts. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours is necessary given the nature of the event scheduling. Although not required, completion of bartending school is preferred, enhancing a bartender’s professional knowledge and confidence in this role.

Overall, working as an Event Bartender at Texas Tech offers a rewarding experience for individuals passionate about hospitality and customer service. This role not only enables staff to engage with a diverse group of guests but also supports the university’s mission by contributing to the success of numerous campus events.
