Job Description
The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department is a vibrant and dedicated municipal entity committed to providing exceptional recreational facilities, programs, and services to the community. Among the many venues managed by the department, the Tampa River Center and Seminole Garden Center stand out as premier locations for permitted rental events. These spaces cater to a wide variety of community and private functions, offering residents and visitors the perfect backdrop for social, cultural, and celebratory gatherings. The department prides itself on maintaining these facilities with high standards of safety, cleanliness, and accessibility, ensuring that every event is conducted smoothly and meets the city’s regulations and expectations.
The role of an Event Support Assistant with the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department is integral to the successful execution of rental events at these prominent centers. This position is designed for individuals who are adaptable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently while collaborating closely with permanent staff and event promoters. Employees in this position handle a range of responsibilities including assisting with the setup and breakdown of event furniture such as tables and chairs, monitoring parking arrangements, and overseeing compliance with established rules and regulations. This role requires a strong commitment to customer service, tact, and courtesy as it involves frequent interaction with the public and event organizers.
Event Support Assistants must be prepared to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the varied schedules of permitted events. The work often involves physically demanding tasks such as lifting up to 30 pounds and standing for extended periods, as well as balancing indoor and outdoor duties. Attention to detail is essential, especially when checking for safety hazards and ensuring that all aspects of the event conform to city guidelines. Additionally, the role demands effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to respond adequately to inquiries and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
This position is classified as unclassified, offering a unique opportunity for individuals seeking to contribute to their community through meaningful public service while gaining valuable experience in event coordination and facility management. Successful candidates will demonstrate initiative and independent judgment, coupled with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities in dynamic environments. The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department supports continuous learning and requires that employees obtain CPR certification within six months of employment as a part of maintaining safety standards at all events.
Overall, this role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a community-centered environment, possess a proactive approach to problem-solving, and are passionate about ensuring smooth, safe, and enjoyable public events.
