This role is a leadership position within Johnson Controls, responsible for driving the business development, sales, and execution activities of the HVAC Equipment business in partnership with independent sales agents. Under general direction, the successful candidate will lead a team of sales and operations leaders, ensuring that business plan objectives are achieved across critical metrics including volume, margin, revenue, and market share. The focus is on developing and strengthening partnerships with independent equipment sales agents, promoting the full Johnson Controls Equipment portfolio, and ensuring alignment of strategies to maximize growth through these channels.

The role requires strategic oversight of sales and operations processes, including pipeline management, forecasting, project reviews, and contract management. The leader will implement performance improvement initiatives and manage expenses to maximize productivity. Collaboration with legal and compensation teams is also key to safeguard the company’s interests while driving sales growth. This position acts as the internal advocate for independent sales agent partners and represents Johnson Controls in relevant industry associations.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, marketing, or related field
  • MBA preferred
  • Minimum of eight to ten years experience in program management, marketing, direct sales, and/or sales management within a channel or industrial product distribution organization with extensive customer contact
  • Ability to generate, communicate, and lead effective actions across the organization based on analysis of various leading and lagging indicators
  • Possesses construction business principles with the ability to lead and influence diverse teams
  • Demonstrated competence in written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to positively represent Johnson Controls and communicate with others at varying technical and/or managerial levels
  • General operational knowledge of field sales procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry, company products and services
  • Able to travel 35 percent

Job Duties

  • Leads profitable growth of the HVAC Equipment business secured and executed through Agent partnerships
  • Ensures Agent partners actively promote entire Johnson Controls Equipment portfolio in support of the overall Equipment sales plan
  • Provides HVAC Equipment leadership to enhance the relationship and partnership between Area and Local Market sales teams and independent equipment sales agents
  • Leads the development and deployment of sales and operations processes required to execute business through independent Agent partner, and assists with the development of appropriate systems, tools, and training to ensure consistency with Agent partner needs and business requirements
  • Ensures implementation of, and adherence to, Johnson Controls standard operating procedures for pipeline management, forecasting, project reviews, and delegation of authority for both Sales and Operations
  • Leads identification, development, and cadences around performance improvement activities relative to independent equipment sales agents
  • Leads operational management of independent sales Agent partners in partnership with Director or Equipment Operation and Director of Equipment Process
  • Manages sales agent contract administration including
  • contract development, maintenance and enforcement
  • Works with internal legal and compensation departments to promote sales growth while simultaneously protecting the interests of Johnson Controls
  • Acts as internal advocate for independent sales Agent business partners
  • Represents Johnson Controls in relevant industry associations
  • Develops and manages expense budgets to maximize results and productivity
