MPS Group, Inc. is a renowned staffing and consulting firm specializing in providing workforce solutions across various industries. With a strong focus on connecting skilled professionals with leading companies, MPS Group emphasizes quality, safety, and compliance in every placement. The company has established itself as a trusted partner for businesses looking to enhance productivity and operational efficiency by matching them with the right talent.
This job opportunity is offered through MPS Group, Inc. for the position of Environmental Technician at the Stellantis Assembly Plant located in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Stellantis is a prominent automotive manufacturing facility known for its commitment to innovation, quality production, and environmental stewardship. The plant focuses on assembling vehicles with precision, adhering to strict safety and environmental standards.
The Environmental Technician role is essential to the plant's operations as it involves handling solid and hazardous waste in compliance with Environmental Protection Agency requirements. This position operates on the 1st shift, working Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., offering a consistent schedule and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to environmental safety and regulatory compliance.
As an Environmental Technician, the individual will be responsible for segregating, sorting, packaging, and managing waste streams to ensure environmentally safe disposal and recycling. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and the ability to maintain order and cleanliness within the waste accumulation areas. Daily equipment inspections and documentation are integral to maintaining operational safety.
The position requires active participation in spill response activities, including containment and cleanup, to minimize environmental impact. The technician will regularly interact with supervisors to coordinate waste handling, supply delivery, and ensure organized waste management processes. Operative skills, such as forklift operation for moving waste and loading/unloading trucks, are critical to fulfilling the job duties successfully.
Additionally, the Environmental Technician will conduct weekly inspections of waste storage, spill kits, and storm drain pathways, taking corrective actions when necessary to maintain compliance with environmental and safety standards. The role demands physical stamina, including standing or walking for up to 8 hours daily and the capacity to lift and move heavy objects during short bursts of activity.
Safety training is a significant component of the role, with extensive in-house health and safety training provided to prepare the technician for the challenges of the position. The candidate must be able to pass both a background check and drug test to qualify for employment.
Preferred qualifications include specialized training such as the 40-hour HAZWOPER certification, RCRA/DOT training, and experience operating a Hilo truck. Previous experience working in automotive assembly or manufacturing environments will be advantageous, supporting a smooth integration into the plant’s operational culture and enhancing the technician’s effectiveness in their role.
This opportunity is ideal for candidates who are detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and motivated to play a vital role in environmental management within a dynamic manufacturing setting. Joining the team means engaging in meaningful work that supports sustainable manufacturing practices and regulatory compliance.
