Job Description
Vulcan Materials Company stands as the nation's largest producer of construction aggregates as well as a key manufacturer of aggregates-based construction materials like asphalt and ready-mixed concrete. With an extensive network of operations throughout the United States, Vulcan has established itself as a leader in the building materials industry. By joining Vulcan, employees become part of a dynamic culture that values career development, rewards excellence, and embraces diversity. The company's guiding principle, known as the Vulcan Way, emphasizes integrity through doing the right thing, the right way, at the right time. This culture fosters an environment where every team member’s contribution impacts communities nationwide, making meaningful differences in infrastructure that millions of people rely on every day.
The position on offer is a key environmental compliance role within Vulcan’s operations. As an Environmental Compliance Specialist, you will play a vital role in analyzing a broad spectrum of environmental requirements—such as permits, regulatory plans, and legislation—to ensure that all plant operations adhere to applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Your work will encompass establishing and maintaining a compliance framework that clearly outlines responsibilities at the plant level, thus preventing non-compliance risks and enhancing the company’s environmental stewardship.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include conducting thorough inspections and audits at different plant locations to verify regulatory conformity and to evaluate the effectiveness of environmental management systems. This hands-on approach not only involves identifying current compliance status but also spotting areas for improvement and risk mitigation throughout Vulcan’s network. Training and education will be key components of your role. You will develop engaging materials and provide both group and individual training sessions to increase environmental awareness and align practices with regulatory requirements.
Interaction with various internal teams and external regulatory bodies is essential, ensuring consistent communication and support across the company’s diverse operations. You will serve as a resource for local personnel on environmental compliance matters and regularly liaise with governmental agencies to stay current with evolving regulations and standards. Additionally, you will manage external consultants to maximize the quality and cost-effectiveness of environmental projects.
Moreover, you will oversee compliance support activities including permit applications, plan management such as SPCC (Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure), SWPPP (Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan), fugitive dust control, as well as tracking reporting obligations like emissions, discharge monitoring, and Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting. Keeping accurate and up-to-date records will assist Vulcan in maintaining its leadership role in environmental responsibility.
Working fully on-site, this role supports Vulcan’s emphasis on in-person collaboration, which is crucial to driving innovation and fostering a culture where diverse perspectives are valued, and every employee’s voice is heard. Vulcan Materials Company is dedicated to building a workplace that prioritizes safety, career growth, and meaningful work that impacts communities by producing materials used in the construction of roads, schools, hospitals, airports, and housing across the country. Joining Vulcan means becoming part of a company that not only values your professional development but also provides comprehensive benefits and a safe, inclusive work environment to help you thrive.
