Job Description

MU Health Care is a comprehensive academic health system located in mid-Missouri, dedicated to saving and improving lives through an inspired, hard-working, and collaborative environment. Recognized as the only academic health system in mid-Missouri, MU Health Care includes multiple hospitals, such as the region's only Level 1 Trauma Center and the region's only Children’s Hospital, along with over 90 specialty clinics. The organization prides itself on innovation, opportunities for growth, and a commitment to community service and advancing medical fields. Employees at MU Health Care are encouraged to have a voice and a role in impactful healthcare work, fostering a supportive culture that values professional development and patient-centered care.

The role of Environmental Services Technician is a critical position within MU Health Care’s housekeeping department. This role involves performing specialized cleaning duties in an acute healthcare setting, focusing heavily on maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and infection control. Environmental Services Technicians interact daily with patients, healthcare and ancillary staff, visitors, and the general public, requiring strong customer service skills, a professional demeanor, and adherence to strict confidentiality and privacy standards under HIPAA regulations. This position operates primarily during the shift from Monday to Friday, 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, with responsibilities extending to every other weekend.

Environmental Services Technicians are responsible for executing cleaning routines across various hospital areas, including patient care rooms, restrooms, specialized procedure areas, public spaces, clinics, and offices. Employees handle both regular and medical waste, along with soiled linens, while following rigorous infection control protocols and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). The job requires standing and physical activity, including lifting objects up to 25 pounds and working with ladders. The position also involves the use of electronic systems to track linen usage and ensure proper stocking of departmental supplies.

Training is provided to ensure mastery of cleaning procedures, chemical and equipment usage, customer service scripting, and safety standards. Environmental Services Technicians are expected to maintain work areas that are ready for regulatory inspections, report any safety concerns promptly, and assist with floor care processes when necessary. Employees at MU Health Care receive a competitive base pay of $15.03 to $21.48 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits start on day one and include health, vision, and dental insurance, generous paid leave including nine holidays, multiple retirement plans with matching contributions, tuition assistance for employees and family members, and discounts on various services and products.

This role offers a valuable opportunity for candidates interested in healthcare support roles that combine physical activity with patient and staff interaction in a respected academic health care setting. MU Health Care fosters an inclusive and equal opportunity environment, welcoming diversity and offering supportive pathways for career growth and skills development across clinical and nonclinical sectors.
