Job Description
The Christ Hospital is a renowned healthcare institution committed to providing exceptional patient care and a safe, sanitary, and appealing environment for all patients, visitors, and staff. As a reputable hospital, it emphasizes maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, infection control, and patient safety. The hospital is dedicated to fostering collaboration among its departments to ensure that patients receive not only exemplary medical treatment but also experience the utmost in comfort and dignity throughout their stay. This commitment extends to maintaining a pristine environment through the efforts of its Environmental Services (EVS) staff, who play a vital role in upholding the hospital's mission and contributing to overall patient wellbeing.
The role of an EVS staff member at The Christ Hospital centers around promoting patient safety by ensuring that all patient areas are meticulously cleaned and sanitized using approved germicides and cleaning chemicals on a daily basis. EVS staff are responsible for handling wet floor signs and other caution alerts to mitigate any hazardous conditions, thereby preventing accidents and promoting a secure environment. They strictly adhere to infection control procedures, including appropriate handwashing and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to reduce the risk of infection transmission within the hospital. Beyond cleaning, EVS team members collaborate closely with other hospital personnel to enhance the overall hospital experience for every patient and visitor.
In addition to patient areas, EVS staff clean non-patient zones such as nurses' stations, offices, public waiting rooms, restrooms, and other ancillary areas, ensuring a hygienic and welcoming environment throughout the facility. They also perform terminal cleaning of patient rooms after discharge, preparing them thoroughly for new admissions. Customer service is a key component of the EVS role; staff interact daily with patients, visitors, and colleagues to promote a positive service attitude. This includes ensuring patient satisfaction with room cleanliness, using scripted communication to offer additional assistance, and leaving informative notes for patients that include housekeeping contact information.
Confidentiality is paramount at The Christ Hospital, and EVS staff are expected to comply with hospital policies and federal regulations regarding patient privacy. Regular testing on safety and confidentiality is part of the role to ensure compliance. The position also requires basic computer knowledge, such as using MS Office Outlook for emails and the NaviCare system for bed tracking. EVS staff must be capable of completing required annual Stat Tests successfully.
Candidates for the position should possess a High School Diploma or GED, although the hospital prefers candidates with at least one year of related work experience. Basic reading, writing, and math skills are essential, along with preferred customer service skills. While a CHEST certification is not mandatory upon hiring, it is preferred that this certification be obtained within one year of employment. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic healthcare environment dedicated to patient well-being, supporting a hospital culture that prioritizes safety, cleanliness, and exceptional service.
