This particular job opening is for a Regular employee position within the Healthplex Mustang Environmental Services department, focusing on sanitation and cleanliness to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The role offered is full-time, with a standard 40-hour workweek scheduled for the night shift. This position holds significant importance in a hospital setting as cleanliness and sanitation directly impact patient safety and infection control.

The primary responsibilities of this role include cleaning patient rooms, offices, classrooms, work areas, and public spaces, adhering strictly to established processes and standards. The position may also involve managing laundry tasks including sorting and correctly handling laundry items. This role requires proficiency in a variety of cleaning methods such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, polishing, vacuuming, and carpet cleaning, sometimes utilizing mechanical cleaning equipment. Specialized cleaning duties include disinfecting sterile procedure rooms including surgery and delivery areas in accordance with ministry operating standards.

Attention to safety is paramount, thus the individual must adhere to all safety policies relating to infectious waste, hazardous materials, spills, and exposure events, ensuring proper documentation and reporting. The job also involves restocking supplies in designated areas, managing waste transport including hazardous and recyclable materials, and possibly assisting with furniture movement and equipment maintenance. Candidates must maintain constant alertness and perform duties in a safe manner.

While no prior experience or professional license is required, physical demands include constant standing and walking, frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, and use of vision, hearing, and smell for certain tasks. The position also requires frequent reaching, gripping, bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and repetitive movements.

Job Duties

  • Cleans patient rooms, offices, classrooms, work areas and public areas as assigned and according to proper processes, procedures and standards
  • May handle all laundry items by sorting and placing in proper containers according to proper processes, procedures and standards
  • Performs sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, polishing, vacuuming, hard surface floor cleaning, stripping, refinishing and carpet cleaning which may require the use of mechanical equipment
  • Cleans light fixtures, ceilings, vents, walls, mattresses, furniture, windows, window coverings, and any other items as assigned
  • Cleans and disinfects sterile procedure rooms according to policies, procedures and standards such as surgery and delivery areas as required by ministry operating standards
  • Adheres to safety precautions, policies, procedures and standards for handling infectious wastes, hazardous materials, waste spills, and exposures
  • Replenishes supplies and materials in assigned areas and patient rooms
  • Transports trash, hazardous waste, soiled linen, and recyclable trash to appropriate disposal areas following policies, procedures and standards
  • May participate in moving furniture, set up chairs, set up tables, break down rooms
  • May perform routine equipment maintenance and make minor repairs as requested
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned
