The role of Environmental Services Technician II at The Christ Hospital is a vital position focused on maintaining a clean, safe, and appealing environment throughout the hospital premises. The Environmental Services Technician II is responsible for promoting patient safety by ensuring that all cleaning processes meet hospital guidelines and safety regulations. This position requires knowledge of various cleaning equipment and chemicals as well as proficiency in floor maintenance and refinishing techniques. The technician provides excellent customer service alongside their cleaning duties, interacting professionally with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.

A key responsibility for this role is routine floor maintenance, which includes operating and maintaining floor machines such as auto-scrubbers and burnishers. The technician performs dust mopping, wet mopping, and spot mopping, effectively managing the cleanliness and appearance of corridors and other hard surfaces. Additionally, the Environmental Services Technician II is skilled in floor stripping and refinishing, capable of preparing floors, applying finishes correctly, and adhering to safety protocols during these tasks.

Carpet maintenance is another important aspect of this job. The technician must be adept at carpet spotting and cleaning using appropriate chemicals and equipment, ensuring hospital carpets are free of stains and contaminants. The role also includes trash hauling duties, involving the collection and disposal of general and biohazard waste according to strict hospital policies, including the safe use of autoclaves and shredders for bio-trash processing.

Maintaining confidentiality and following hospital policies regarding patient information is critical in this role. The Environmental Services Technician II is expected to comply with all privacy regulations and complete annual safety and confidentiality training. Basic computer knowledge is required, particularly the ability to use Microsoft Office Outlook for communication and pass annual competency tests.

Other responsibilities may include supporting hospital event setups and recycling programs, enhancing the overall hospital environment and supporting sustainable practices. Job Duties

  • Always promotes patient safety
  • Able to clean patient rooms and discharges as required
  • Is knowledgeable of all ESI chemicals and procedures
  • Provides excellent customer service to patients, visitors and staff
  • Is knowledgeable of and trained in the use and maintenance of floor machines, Boost technology, auto-scrubbers and automatic burnishers
  • Follows the guidelines for dust mopping, wet mopping and spot mopping hard surface corridors
  • Has experience in and properly prepares floors for refinishing to include stripping and scrubbing surfaces
  • Details prepared surfaces including edges and corners, behind doors, and cove base
  • Knows when floor is ready for finish and how to apply the proper number of coats
  • Always cleans equipment and disposes of unused product safely
  • Follows all safety protocol to protect self and others
  • Knows how to clean carpet surfaces using proper spotting technique and correct chemicals
  • Has knowledge of vacuum sweepers, cleaners, floor machines and various types of extractors
  • Must have the ability to learn all areas of trash removal and trash routes for pushing gondolas of trash
  • All gondolas are to be covered whenever in transit
  • Must be able to learn to use a steam autoclave and shredder for bio trash and record weights and temperatures
  • Is aware of and follows hospital policy and federal regulations regarding patient confidentiality
  • Tested annually on safety and confidentiality
  • Ability to learn MS Office Outlook for emails
  • Ability to take and pass required annual Stat Tests
  • Performs other tasks as required including meeting set-ups and recycling
