Job Description
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is a governing body that oversees various departments and services within Broward County, Florida. One of its key departments is the Broward County Aviation Department, which operates major airports including Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and North Perry Airport. This department plays a critical role in managing airport operations, facilities, and developments to support the region's transportation infrastructure and economic growth. As a public sector entity, Broward County is committed to providing inclusive, equitable, and quality services to its residents and visitors, with strong emphasis on professional conduct and community engagement.
The Aviation Department of Broward County is currently seeking qualified candidates for the role of Enterprise Assistant Director of Business - Airport Concessions. This position provides a unique opportunity to join one of the fastest-growing international airports in the United States. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is a major hub that supports over 100 dining and retail concessions, in addition to rental car facilities, making it a vibrant commercial and service hub that requires skilled management and strategic oversight.
As the Enterprise Assistant Director of Business, the selected candidate will be responsible for leading and mentoring a dynamic team dedicated to managing the airport concession program and general aviation real estate development projects. This role entails overseeing a multi-million-dollar concession program, which includes tenant relations, concession procurement, lease negotiations, compliance enforcement, and facility design participation. The Assistant Director will also play a pivotal role in analyzing sales and productivity, preparing comprehensive reports and financial analyses, and collaborating with various County staff and departments to ensure the efficient and effective operation of airport commercial activities.
This leadership position demands an individual who excels in building networks and strategic partnerships, managing complex projects, and driving innovative concession and real estate opportunities. The incumbent will act as a key representative of the Aviation Department at conferences and industry events, constantly seeking new and cutting-edge offerings to enhance the airport’s concession program.
Broward County offers a comprehensive benefits package including eleven paid holidays annually, two weeks of paid vacation time per year, tuition reimbursement up to $2,000 annually, paid parental leave, and several health insurance plan options with county-funded health savings accounts. Additionally, the Florida Retirement System and deferred compensation plans provide financial security for employees. The employment type is full-time with the position remaining open until a sufficient number of applications are received.
The Assistant Director will work under administrative supervision and is expected to develop programs within organizational policies while regularly reporting major activities to executive-level administrators. The role requires professional interaction with the public, airport vendors, contractors, and other employees to promote a positive and productive work environment. Compliance with federal regulation Title 49 Part 1542, including Criminal History Records Check and Security Threat Assessments, is mandatory due to the sensitive nature of airport operations.
Overall, this is a senior position well-suited for a professional with strong business insight, strategic mindset, and the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships. The role requires a proactive leader able to anticipate industry trends and adapt to the evolving demands of airport business development. The successful candidate will demonstrate competencies in accountability, persuasive communication, talent development, and situational adaptability within a highly regulated environment. This is a compelling opportunity to contribute to the growth and operational excellence of a major international airport in a diverse and dynamic community.
