Job Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Certification as EMT-P by Texas Department of State Health Services
- Satisfactory background and employment screening including physical exam and drug screening
- Have and maintain a clear and valid Texas Class B driver’s license within 6 months of hire or assignment
- Comprehensive knowledge of department Standard Operating Procedures and Emergency Medical Protocols
- Working knowledge of and ability to operate all emergency equipment safely
- Ability to lead and train FF/EMT-I and FF/EMT-B personnel
- Ability to analyze and respond effectively to emergency situations
- Ability to function effectively under pressure
- Ability to respond in-person to emergency events
- Proficient in English communication
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Working knowledge of geographic coverage area
- Ability to inspect and perform maintenance on department equipment
- Adherence to chain of command reporting
- Ability to educate the public on fire safety and prevention
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation
- Knowledge of applicable fire and building codes
- Understanding of HIPAA and confidentiality requirements
- Ability to administer emergency first aid
- Capable to use rescue tools and emergency apparatus
- Ability to operate hydraulic and pneumatic rescue equipment
- Ability to drive vehicles requiring Texas Class B exempt/CDL license
- Ability to distinguish NFPA hazard signs and fire chemicals by smoke color
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures and hazardous environments
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to manage high-stress emergency conditions
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and cleaning
- Ability to work assigned shifts including weekends, holidays, and overtime
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification as EMT-P by Texas Department of State Health Services
- Experience working in emergency medical services
- Leadership abilities to motivate and train fire personnel
- Knowledge of department Standard Operating Procedures and Emergency Medical Protocols
- Ability to operate emergency and rescue equipment safely
- Strong decision-making skills in emergency situations
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
- Familiarity with fire and building codes
- Ability to maintain accurate logs and records
- Understanding of HIPAA laws and patient confidentiality
- Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and other agencies
- Physically able to perform rescue and firefighting duties
- Valid Texas Class B driver’s license within 6 months of hire or assignment
Job Duties
- Assume command and make critical decisions in the absence of an officer
- Deliver and direct emergency medical services up to EMT-P skill set
- Provide appropriate responses to fires and emergencies
- Conduct complex rescue operations and render aid
- Function effectively in situations involving severe trauma
- Operate emergency apparatus including driving and pumping vehicles
- Follow policies and provide leadership to fire personnel
- Operate all fire equipment safely and lawfully
- Participate in daily Fire Station operations and ensure response readiness
- Carry out equipment and station maintenance and inspections
- Enter data to document incidents and reports
- Work with chemicals and protective equipment to mitigate hazards
- Clean and maintain Fire Department facilities and apparatus
- Interpret specialized testing and reporting procedures
- Provide fire safety and prevention education
- Perform company level inspections and supervise preplanning of buildings
- Participate in personnel training and document training provided
- Plan and manage assigned projects ensuring compliance
- Follow City policies and instructions from Fire Department Officers
- Respond to inquiries from citizens and agencies as needed
- Attend meetings and exercise good judgment in decision-making
- Maintain punctual, regular attendance
- Demonstrate initiative in task completion
- Safeguard City property and report repairs
- Work safely and maintain a healthy environment
- Maintain confidentiality regarding City business
- Perform other duties as assigned
