Job Description
The Kalispel Tribe of Indians is a renowned tribal organization committed to providing exceptional services and fostering a supportive environment for both its members and the broader community. This position is for a Cook within the Kalispel Tribe’s culinary operations. The primary responsibility is to prepare, season, and cook various food items such as soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and specialty dishes, ensuring that all offerings meet the superior quality and presentation standards expected in the tribe’s eating establishments. This role plays a vital part in ensuring guest satisfaction by focusing on food taste, safety, and presentation. The Cook will follow established recipes and control procedures to maintain consistency and quality while assisting the Sous Chef with specialty dishes as needed.
In addition to food preparation, the role requires a comprehensive understanding and adherence to all food safety and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the FDA and HACCP standards. The cook will perform daily quality control checks to guarantee that all food items served are safe and of the highest standard. The position also entails rotating food products daily to ensure freshness. Opportunities to contribute suggestions for kitchen operations improvements are encouraged. The role involves working closely with the Sous Chef, Food & Beverage Manager, and Regional Business Manager to meet the dynamic needs of the business, including varying work hours based on business levels which may necessitate night, weekend, and holiday availability.
The environment is fast-paced and requires physical stamina including the ability to lift heavy objects, handle repetitive motions, and maintain focus on detailed instructions. This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities but demands excellent communication skills, problem-solving ability under pressure, and proficiency with technology such as Microsoft Office software. Employment is contingent upon a favorable background check, with specific requirements including a Kalispel Tribal Work Permit and Washington State Food Handler Permit.

Job Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Kalispel Tribal Work Permit
- Washington State Food Handler Permit - obtain within 14 days of start date
- Hepatitis A and B vaccination required
- Available and willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as required
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- One-year related experience and or training
- Experience with high volume cooking helpful
- Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft programs and other computer software
- Skill in identifying and resolving problems under pressure conditions
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts related to food
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and the public
- Skill in effectively communicating information through verbal and written correspondence
- Employment contingent upon a favorable outcome of a background investigation
Job Duties
- Ensures compliance with the Kalispel Tribe of Indians internal controls and policies and procedures
- Ability to perform various types of cooking methods
- Follows all recipes and control procedures
- Prepares or displays food to specifications
- Assists Sous Chef in preparing specialty dishes
- Rotates food products daily ensuring the highest quality possible
- Follows all food safety and sanitation guidelines set for by the FDA to ensure HACCP
- Performs quality control checks before, during, and after production to ensure health and sanitation standards
- Continually reviews kitchen operations for improvements
- Performs all other tasks as requested by the Sous Chef, Food and Beverage Manager or Regional Business Manager
- Available to work any changes in hours deemed necessary for business levels
- May be required to be a panelist for the Internal Review Hearings
