Job Description
Hope the Mission is a dedicated organization committed to preventing, reducing, and eliminating poverty, hunger, and homelessness. Their mission centers around offering immediate assistance and long-term solutions to those in need, making a significant impact in the community. As a recognized entity operating within the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles areas, Hope the Mission exemplifies compassion and service, focusing on feeding individuals who are experiencing homelessness and thereby improving their quality of life.
Hope the Mission operates a large-scale kitchen based in North Hills, producing thousands of meals daily. The kitchen's success depends not only on food preparation but also on the efficient logistics that ensure these meals reach various sites where people rely on this essential support. The delivery of food must be timely, maintain temperature required for safety, and arrive intact to uphold the quality and safety standards the organization insists upon.
The role of a Driver at Hope the Mission is critical and multifaceted, acting as the vital logistical link between the central kitchen and various distribution sites. Reporting directly to the Kitchen Logistics Manager, Drivers manage the safe, timely, and accurate transportation of food, water, and other critical supplies. Duties include loading and unloading delivery vehicles with insulated food carriers, water, dry goods, and kitchen equipment. Drivers maintain and clean transport vehicles to ensure operational readiness, manage delivery schedules, and maintain thorough logs including mileage, service reports, and donation records.
There are three progressive levels within this position: Driver I, Driver II, and Driver III. Driver I is primarily focused on route execution and communication with site managers to coordinate deliveries effectively. Driver II incorporates additional responsibilities such as training new drivers and optimizing delivery routes for maximum efficiency, thus serving as a key team support. Driver III holds a supervisory role, overseeing Drivers I and II, enforcing safety standards, providing coaching, and serving as the operational lead for logistics. Regardless of level, all drivers must adhere strictly to food safety protocols, vehicle maintenance standards, and report any issues immediately.
Beyond the primary duties involving food delivery, Drivers also assist with kitchen operations when not on their delivery routes. This includes helping with inventory management, warehouse organization, kitchen workspace cleaning, and handling donation pickups. Drivers are expected to work collaboratively with kitchen staff, site managers, and volunteers to maintain a smooth workflow that benefits the wider mission.
This is a part-time position requiring availability in the afternoon and early evening, with shifts from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The role demands physical stamina including the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 70 lbs, as well as the capacity to stand and bend regularly. A positive attitude and the ability to work well within a team environment are essential. The position is contingent on passing background checks, drug and motor vehicle record screenings, and requires legal eligibility to work in the United States.
With a focus on serving a vulnerable population and ensuring operational excellence, the Driver position at Hope the Mission offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully while developing skills in logistics, vehicle operation, and team collaboration within a respected non-profit organization dedicated to positive social impact.
