The role of Delivery Driver Class A at Fortune Fish & Gourmet is vital to the company’s operations and customer satisfaction. This full-time position requires a professional driver who is responsible for delivering and unloading a variety of perishable products, including seafood, beef, poultry, and gourmet goods, maintaining the highest standards of safety and product care. The driver will act as the primary point of contact between the company and its customers, ensuring that every delivery is executed with attention to detail and quality customer service. The driver will work within a predetermined route, performing pre-trip and post-delivery inspections and procedures to maintain safety and regulatory compliance, including adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations.

In this role, the driver must be highly organized and safety-conscious, performing daily vehicle inspections, monitoring temperature-controlled environments to protect product quality, and securing the vehicle properly during deliveries. The position requires physical endurance and the ability to lift heavy products safely, often handling weights up to 80 pounds and occasionally more, while also ensuring delivery documentation and transactions are properly managed. The Delivery Driver Class A will collaborate closely with management and the Fleet Manager, reporting any concerns promptly and supporting vehicle maintenance schedules.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • two to three years of commercial driving experience
  • transportation of temperature-controlled product experience preferred
  • friendly, outgoing, and courteous customer service demeanor
  • a sense of urgency in meeting critical and time-sensitive deadlines with the ability to work with limited supervision
  • must have a valid Class A license
  • available to work long shifts and Saturdays
  • basic English-speaking proficiency
  • reside within the Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo, Michigan area
  • physically able to stand, sit, walk, and drive for prolonged periods
  • regularly able to lift up to 80 pounds, occasionally over 80 pounds
  • able to pass a Medical Examiner’s Certification

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Perform all pre-trip responsibilities to include checking route numbers and account numbers for assigned deliveries
  • perform necessary vehicle safety inspections for vehicle
  • drive and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route
  • ensure vehicle is properly secured during drop-offs
  • load and unload products from vehicle using dolly or other appropriate devices safely
  • verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures confirming receipt of product
  • contact management to discuss issues or concerns as they arise throughout the workday
  • perform all post-delivery actions, including unloading damaged product, customer returns, and complete any necessary documents
  • follow Department of Transportation (DOT) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations during the operation of the truck and handling of product
  • monitor and ensure that temperature-controlled vehicles maintain required temperature limits to ensure product quality
  • develop and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and goodwill by providing professional assistance and by demonstrating an interest in the customer’s needs
  • report any complaints to Supervisor
  • collect money from customers and properly record transactions on company documentation, including invoices
  • ensure that payment (cash, checks, etc.) are properly secured
  • ensure that safety training is current as per company policy
  • supports the Fleet Manager by ensuring that vehicles are maintained according to schedule and records are current and correct
  • other duties as assigned by supervisor
