Job Description

Airgas, an Air Liquide company, is a premier supplier specializing in industrial, medical, and specialty gases across the United States, alongside hardgoods, safety products, ammonia, and process chemicals. With a workforce of approximately 18,000 associates, Airgas embraces a culture grounded in safety, sustainability, innovation, and customer success. It operates as part of Air Liquide's global network, a leading entity serving more than 4 million customers and patients in over 60 countries with 66,500 employees worldwide. This broad international presence underscores its commitment to quality, community engagement, and fostering a diverse, inclusive work environment.

At the Oakland, NJ plant, Airgas National Carbonation (ANC) focuses on managing CO2 logistics, utilizing a fleet of Class B CDL-rated day-cab trucks. This particular role serves as a Regional CDL Driver position, operating primarily on the second shift starting at 7 pm from Tuesday through Saturday. The position offers a competitive pay rate of $35 per hour, emphasizing weekend availability as a key scheduling requirement. The CDL Driver will be responsible for regional routes covering New York City, Long Island, and Northern New Jersey, with an expectation of some travel (25%-50%) within the region, including potential overnight stays that Airgas will accommodate with paid lodging and travel arrangements.

The driver is tasked with the safe transportation and handling of CO2 products, adhering strictly to company safety and operational procedures. This includes conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections and ensuring all vehicle documentation is completed accurately. Because CO2 is a specialty gas requiring delicate handling, the driver must safely load, unload, and transport these products, engaging in physical tasks such as climbing 14-foot ladders, operating various power tools, and maneuvering equipment weighing up to 500 lbs with assistance. Experience with specialty gases like CO2 is advantageous though not mandatory.

This role demands a high level of professionalism, reliability, and compliance with regulatory requirements, including maintaining a valid Class A or Class B CDL with tanker and HAZMAT endorsements, as well as airbrake certification. Applicants must have at least one year of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driving experience within the last five years or a recent trucking school certificate. Drivers must demonstrate a clean driving record — no more than two traffic violations or at-fault accidents in the past three years — and a commitment to drug-free and alcohol-free safety standards. This job offers a dynamic, engaging work environment where drivers contribute significantly to both the company's logistical success and customer satisfaction.

Airgas provides a robust benefits package supporting employee wellness, including medical, dental, and vision plans, paid time off, holidays, and generous parental leave options. The company also invests in its employees' futures through a 401(k) plan with matching contributions, tuition reimbursement, and educational scholarships for employees and their dependents. These offerings illustrate Airgas’s dedication to not only attracting but also retaining skilled professionals by fostering a supportive and growth-oriented workplace environment.

Joining Airgas means becoming part of a diverse and inclusive team committed to innovation and excellence. The company values individuals who bring unique perspectives and skills, enriching its culture and advancing industry standards. This CDL Driver opportunity in Oakland offers stable employment with competitive compensation, the chance to work with cutting-edge logistics practices, and the potential for personal and professional development within a globally respected organization.
