With a network spanning numerous locations and a workforce of approximately 18,000 associates, Airgas operates in a culture driven by safety, customer success, sustainability, and innovation. As part of the global Air Liquide family, Airgas benefits from the resources and expertise of a worldwide leader present in 78 countries with over 64,500 employees. This connection enables the company to maintain a strong commitment to quality, technology, and environmental stewardship in all aspects of its operations.
The role of Driver - Class A Local (Open) based in Portland, OR at the NE Columbia retail shop offers an exciting opportunity for professional drivers seeking stability and a balanced work-life schedule. This position includes a Monday to Friday work week from 7:00am to 3:30pm, ensuring employees can return home every night. Drivers receive competitive hourly pay ranging from $27.50 to $34.00 per hour depending on experience, with additional quarterly bonus opportunities and enhanced pay for those with HAZMAT endorsements.
In this role, the driver acts as a vital representative of Airgas, responsible for safely and efficiently delivering compressed gas cylinders and related supplies to local and regional business customers. The deliveries are made using company-provided, modern vehicles including tractor trailers, straight trucks, or box trucks, which feature advanced driver-friendly technology such as onboard computers, collision avoidance systems, latest camera technology, and GPS navigation. The position involves performing pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, loading and unloading trucks, maintaining professional customer relations, and handling gas cylinders on customer sites with an emphasis on safety and efficiency.
The job is physically demanding and requires drivers to regularly lift up to 75 pounds and move weights upwards of 125 pounds with material handling equipment. Drivers frequently exit their vehicles to deliver materials using hand carts on customer property, highlighting the labor-intensive nature of the work. The position offers an excellent career opportunity for individuals with a valid Class A CDL or B CDL with HAZMAT and airbrake endorsements, at least one year of recent trucking experience or appropriate completion of a trucking school certificate, and a clean driving record.
Airgas provides an extensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance plans, healthcare and dependent care pre-tax savings options, basic life insurance with AD&D coverage, short and long-term disability, a 401(k) plan with company match from day one, vacation accrual that grows with tenure, paid holidays and floating holidays, paid parental leave, tuition assistance and CDL scholarship programs after six months, and career development opportunities.
This role is ideal for candidates seeking a perfect work-life balance, a modern and efficient fleet, and a supportive employment environment where diversity and inclusion are valued. Airgas fosters a workplace culture that welcomes and embraces differences, contributing to a collaborative and innovative atmosphere where employees are empowered to grow professionally while contributing to company success.
