Job Description
Airgas, an Air Liquide company, is a premier supplier of industrial, medical, and specialty gases across the United States, known for its dedication to safety, innovation, and customer satisfaction. As an industry leader, Airgas operates with a workforce of approximately 18,000 associates who are passionate about delivering superior products and services. The company is a major supplier of safety products, ammonia products, and process chemicals, serving a diverse set of industries with a commitment to sustainability and operational excellence. As part of the Air Liquide Group, a global leader in gases, technologies, and services with a presence in 60 countries and about 66,500 employees worldwide, Airgas has the resources and reach to provide consistent, high-quality service to more than 4 million customers and patients.
Joining Airgas presents a unique opportunity to work in a company culture that values diversity, inclusion, and personal growth. The organization prides itself on empowering employees to take initiative, share ideas, and contribute to the company’s success while supporting a healthy work-life balance.
The role of Driver - Class A Local (Open) based in North Hollywood, CA at the Coldwater retail shop location is essential to the company’s logistics and customer service operations. As the face of Airgas, the driver is responsible for the safe and timely delivery of compressed gas cylinders to local and regional business customers using company-provided tractor trailers, straight trucks, or box trucks. This full-time position follows a Monday-Friday schedule, starting work in the morning and typically ending in the late afternoon, with occasional weekend shifts. Drivers benefit from competitive pay starting at $30 per hour depending on experience, monthly bonus opportunities, and a referral bonus of $1000. Notably, this role offers the advantage of being home every night, making it an excellent option for candidates seeking a perfect balance between professional responsibilities and personal life.
The driver’s duties include performing rigorous pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, physically loading and unloading the truck with compressed gas cylinders and supplies, and maintaining professional and courteous relationships with customers. Deliveries require not only driving skill but also physical labor, as drivers must safely strap and unstrap cylinders and use hand carts to make deliveries on customer property. Frequent exiting of the vehicle is part of the daily routine, emphasizing the active and labor-intensive nature of this role.
Airgas places high importance on safety and compliance, requiring that candidates hold a valid Class A CDL with Hazmat and Airbrake endorsements, maintain a clean driving record with limited traffic convictions or at-fault accidents, and work drug-free. The physical demands include the ability to regularly lift 75 pounds and move over 125 pounds with equipment assistance. Drivers must have at least one year of recent CDL driving experience or a certificate of completion from a driving school within the last five years.
Working at Airgas means being part of a company that offers comprehensive benefits designed to support employees thoroughly. These include medical, dental, and vision plans, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance, an Employee Assistance Program, and pre-tax commuter transportation benefits. Additionally, the company provides generous parental leave, vacation, sick time, floating holidays, jury duty, and funeral/bereavement leave, alongside paid holidays for eligible full-time employees. Financial security and future planning are supported with a 401k plan that includes company matching and tuition reimbursement programs for employees and their dependents.
Inclusion and equal opportunity are cornerstones of Airgas’s employment philosophy. The company actively welcomes applications from candidates of all backgrounds, making efforts to accommodate individuals with disabilities to ensure equal access to employment and advancement opportunities. This commitment fosters a workplace environment that is welcoming, stimulating, and conducive to professional growth and innovation.
