Job Description

The Dorrance DOME Experience Pilot is an essential member of the Dorrance DOME team, responsible for supporting a variety of daily theater operations, system maintenance, and content development for both the Dorrance DOME and other offerings within the Arizona Science Center. This role reports directly to the Director of DOME Experiences and involves operating an industry-leading LED shared reality dome to deliver ticketed public programs, afterhours events, and live experiences. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to work full-time or part-time on varied schedules including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb and work briefly in elevated positions
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Windows operating systems and PC technology
  • Commitment to upholding high standards of quality and professionalism
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Availability to work during live events with high noise levels
  • Willingness to perform on-the-job training for operations, maintenance, and safety

Job Qualifications

  • High proficiency with Windows OS and PC technology
  • General understanding of audio/visual signal flows and diagrams
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and organized
  • Ability to work independently and within a team, remain calm under pressure
  • Commitment to quality, integrity, and professionalism
  • Passion for science education and informal learning
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to safely climb and work in elevated positions
  • Comfortable working in high noise and busy live event environments
  • On-the-job operational, maintenance, and safety training experience
  • Theatrical or live performance experience preferred
  • Experience with QSYS, Dante, Mosaic, multicast systems, and Paradigm preferred
  • Experience in Audio, Lighting, Broadcast, IT, or streaming IP video workflows preferred
  • Experience with Digistar planetarium software preferred
  • Knowledge of astronomy, marine science, physics, or deep science a plus

Job Duties

  • Operate the Dorrance DOME for daily events including ticketed public programs, afterhours events, and live experiences
  • Aid in development of original content for public programs and events
  • Maintain comprehensive systems and software knowledge to support operations and demonstrations
  • Activate and monitor live event sequences, transitions, triggers, and cues
  • Coordinate with management on program blocks, lighting, audio levels, and run of show
  • Manage and program in-house cameras, lighting, and audio
  • Log, track, and report issues across all presentation systems and theater amenities
  • Assist in LED module removal and replacement
  • Monitor and maintain theatrical audio, video, and lighting effects
  • Perform other duties as assigned
