Job Description
The Cooper Hotel is a distinguished luxury hotel located in Charleston, renowned for its historic charm and world-class service. As a Forbes 5-Star property, it prides itself on providing an exceptional guest experience that combines the elegance of the past with modern sophistication. The hotel is deeply rooted in the cultural and architectural heritage of Charleston, offering guests an authentic and memorable stay with a focus on comfort, personalized service, and refined luxury. The staff at The Cooper Hotel are dedicated to upholding these high standards, ensuring every guest feels welcomed and valued throughout their visit.
As a Doorperson at The Cooper Hotel, you play a pivotal role as the first and last impression guests receive. This position requires a polished appearance, a commanding presence, and a warm, inviting demeanor. Serving as the initial point of contact, you set the tone for the entire guest experience by delivering gracious welcomes and heartfelt farewells. The role is crucial for maintaining the smooth operation of guest arrivals and departures, ensuring efficient traffic flow, and coordinating with valet and bell services teams to facilitate seamless transitions from curb to lobby. Your responsibilities extend beyond mere greetings; you assist with luggage, provide local insights, and anticipate guest needs with intuitive service.
The Doorperson must also maintain safety and security by monitoring the entrance, managing crowd control, and identifying any suspicious activity or security concerns. This role demands stamina and physical endurance as it involves standing for extended periods, working in varying weather conditions, and the ability to handle luggage up to 75 lbs using proper techniques. Must also be flexible to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ideal candidates have prior experience in luxury hospitality or concierge roles, preferably within Forbes 5-Star properties, and possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of Charleston's landmarks, fine dining, local culture, and luxury transportation is essential to provide guests with enriched experiences. A valid driver's license is required to coordinate duties with the valet team effectively.
This role is not only about physical presence but also about creating meaningful connections with guests through personalized attention and familiarity with returning clientele and special occasions. You will be expected to maintain rigorous grooming standards in line with the hotel’s brand, embody professionalism, and contribute to upholding the impeccable presentation and high standards synonymous with The Cooper Hotel. Ultimately, as the Doorperson, you are instrumental in crafting a memorable stay that encourages guests to return and recommend The Cooper Hotel as their preferred destination in Charleston.
