Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2-4 years of transportation experience
- Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License
- Ability to comply with DOT, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to work early morning shifts starting at 2:00 a.m.
- Willingness to work rotating Saturdays
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Physical ability to lift up to 100 pounds and push/pull up to 350 pounds with hand cart
- Ability to work non-traditional hours including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
- Willingness to travel occasionally to other distribution centers or corporate offices
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to follow detailed procedures, practices and compliance regulations
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent
- 2 or 4 year college degree in business management, supply chain management or related field preferred
- 2-4 years of transportation experience or training
- Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License required
- Certificate of DOT regulations training preferred
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and DOT rules and regulations
- Skilled in spreadsheet and word processing software
- Ability to make independent decisions aligned with company policies
- Strong leadership and communication skills to lead team discussions and meetings
- Proven ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions
- Ability to consistently apply policies in a timely and objective manner
- Capacity to handle stress in deadline-oriented and customer service environments
- Proficient in English reading, writing, and speaking
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Able to read technical procedures and governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence
- Competent in presenting information to managers, clients and the public
- Willingness to learn SYGMA technology software and programs.
Job Duties
- Supervises the daily work and safety of transportation associates including adherence to standard operating procedures, food safety standards and work methods
- Ensures transportation associates comply with local, state and federal regulatory agencies including DOT and OSHA
- Oversees labor hours and consumable supplies within budget
- Prepares work schedules including extra workdays and shifts as needed
- Assists with the training of new and existing associates including cross-training
- Directs proper selection and utilization of company assets
- Coordinates required vehicle and equipment repairs
- Reviews delivery functions and productivity reporting and suggests efficiency improvements
- Trains and enforces company policies and protocols including food safety and DOT compliance
- Communicates with warehouse and customer service teams to resolve delivery and customer issues
- Visits customer locations to address delivery challenges and issues
- Maintains positive associate relations through regular department or pre-shift meetings
- Monitors associate morale and collects ideas for engagement improvements
- Supports safety training, conducts observations and investigates accidents with safety manager
- Makes recommendations for corrective actions when needed
- Performs management functions including staff selection, development, discipline, and performance reviews
- Works assigned schedule and remains flexible to meet workload demands
- Performs duties of transportation associates when qualified and needed.
