Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One or more years of experience in dispatch operations or related field
  • Ability to obtain DPS TOC certification within six months
  • Valid class-appropriate driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to operate multiple computer systems and software
  • Willingness to work various shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to multi-task and manage stressful traffic events
  • Must successfully complete Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)
  • Ability to travel statewide and drive state vehicles as part of job
  • Must maintain current driver’s license that is neither revoked nor suspended

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience with radio dispatching
  • Proficiency with computer systems including Windows and Google Suite programs
  • Familiarity with CAD systems and traffic incident management
  • Ability to complete DPS TOC certification
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple events and stressful situations
  • Experience with two-way radio dispatch
  • Knowledge of state highway system and traffic flow monitoring
  • Ability to post dynamic message sign updates

Job Duties

  • Dispatches ADOT mobile response units and deploys and tracks ADOT assets to emergency and non-emergency incidents utilizing CCTV system, multi-line phone system, paging/notification system, two-way radios, and CAD system
  • Assists DPS and other law enforcement by tracking in-progress criminal activity using CCTV system
  • Creates and posts messages on statewide Dynamic Message Signs including information on crashes, closures, Amber/Silver/Blue Alerts, advisories, fire warnings, construction, and other roadway announcements
  • Documents statewide incidents by writing reports using CAD system reported via 511 public portal and az511.com website
  • Completes and maintains DPS TOC certification, remains current on ADOT training courses, completes on-the-job Dispatcher training and quarterly certification tests
  • Receives and processes incoming calls providing assistance and guidance to the public, public and private entities including law enforcement and government agencies
  • Enters events on az511.com website for traffic congestion during rush hours and reviews entries for accuracy
  • Reports freeway monitoring equipment malfunctions or state property damage
  • Updates contact lists and District procedures daily
  • Performs other duties as assigned related to the position
