The role of a Dishwasher at the Institute for the Culinary Arts is a crucial support position focused on maintaining the cleanliness and organization of all related kitchenware, dishes, and catering supplies. This temporary position pays a minimum of $15.00 per hour, with compensation commensurate with the candidate's level, education, and experience. The Dishwasher ensures the sanitation guidelines are strictly followed throughout all dishwashing processes, contributing to the overall health and hygiene standards of the kitchen and dining environments.

This position involves comprehensive responsibilities, including cleaning and drying cookware, dishes, and cutlery, managing waste removal, and maintaining the cleanliness of floors, sinks, dish machines, tray racks, shelving, and carts in various culinary and serving areas. The Dishwasher also plays a key role in organizing storage areas, keeping inventory up to date, and assisting faculty, staff, and students with training and mentoring related to cleanliness and sanitation practices. Being part of a team that supports culinary education, the Dishwasher must consistently demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively as needed.

Working in this role requires physical stamina to withstand the demands of standing for extended periods, lifting heavy items of up to 50 pounds, and performing various movements such as kneeling, stooping, and crouching. The Dishwasher must be dependable, able to work evenings and weekends as necessary, and committed to following all safety protocols to maintain a safe work environment. This position also offers opportunities to contribute to additional projects as assigned, further expanding the role’s scope within the culinary institute.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year related work experience, food service or kitchen experience preferred
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Must pass background check

  • Ability and willingness to follow all work safety training and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment

Job Duties

  • Handle all aspects of the dishwashing process ensuring that sanitation guidelines are followed
  • Check to make sure that all cookware, dishes, and cutlery are thoroughly cleaned and dried
  • Properly store all items in designated storage areas
  • Keep trash cans in kitchens, labs and dish room emptied as needed and keep dining room counters free of dirty trays, food crumbs, etc.
  • Remove empty boxes from kitchen/store room when necessary
  • Maintain cleanliness of floors in the kitchen, labs serving areas, and walk-ways as required by sweeping, wet-mopping, or dry-mopping
  • Maintain cleanliness of sinks, dish machine, tray racks, shelving, and carts and other equipment as directed
  • Maintain inventory of and organization of dish, furniture, linens and catering supply storage areas at all times
  • Assist faculty, staff and students with training and mentoring students working in the dish areas, kitchens and labs, with all issues related to cleanliness and sanitation
  • Assist with additional projects as directed
  • Consistently and dependably attend work, activities and functions as scheduled or assigned
