We are currently seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual for the role of Dish Washer within the Institute for the Culinary Arts. This is a temporary position with a minimum pay rate of $15.00 per hour, with compensation adjusted according to the applicant's experience and education level. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that all small wares, dishes, catering supplies, and kitchen equipment are impeccably clean and properly stored. Beyond dishwashing, responsibilities extend to maintaining the overall cleanliness of kitchen floors, labs, serving areas, and conference spaces to support a hygienic and efficient learning and working environment.

This role requires a strong understanding of sanitation guidelines and the ability to follow established procedures for cleaning and maintenance. The individual will be tasked with checking that all cookware, dishware, and cutlery are thoroughly cleaned, dried, and stored in the correct locations. Additionally, keeping trash receptacles emptied and dining areas tidy contributes to the smooth daily operations of the institute. The role involves physical activity such as lifting heavy pots and pans, standing for long periods, and working collaboratively in tight spaces. The candidate will work closely with kitchen staff, faculty, and students, also assisting in mentoring students in cleanliness and sanitation practices.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • one year related work experience preferred
  • must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • must pass background check
  • ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • ability to kneel, balance, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, speak, and hear
  • ability and willingness to follow all work safety training and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • one year related work experience preferred, food service or kitchen experience beneficial
  • ability to follow instructions and operate various types of kitchen equipment
  • strong communication skills with coworkers and students
  • ability to maintain professionalism, patience, and understanding in stressful situations
  • ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate as part of a team

Job Duties

  • Handle all aspects of the dish washing process ensuring that sanitation guidelines are followed
  • check to make sure all cookware, dishes, and cutlery are thoroughly cleaned and dried
  • properly store all items in designated storage areas
  • keep trash cans in kitchens, labs, and dish room emptied as needed and keep dining room counters free of dirty trays, food crumbs, etc.
  • remove empty boxes from kitchen/store room when necessary
  • maintain cleanliness of floors in the kitchen, labs serving areas, and walk-ways as required by sweeping, wet-mopping, or dry-mopping
  • maintain cleanliness of sinks, dish machine, tray racks, shelving, carts, and other equipment as directed
