The role on offer is that of a Food Service Worker on the evening shift, operating primarily within the hospital kitchen. The position supports kitchen operations, specifically focusing on the closing shift dishwasher duties. This role is essential in maintaining the hygiene, sanitation, and operational efficiency of food preparation and service areas. The position operates Monday through Friday from 4PM to 9PM, with weekends off, providing a balanced work-life schedule. The team-oriented environment allows individuals to engage with culinary and nutrition departments dedicated to hospital nutrition services. Food Service Workers contribute significantly to the patient care experience by ensuring that food is safely prepared, properly handled, and presented with care. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • ability to learn and follow established policies and procedures
  • effective reading and communication skills
  • basic math skills
  • ability to stand for extended periods
  • ability to work the assigned evening shift (Monday through Friday, 4PM to 9PM)
  • ability to handle physical demands of cleaning and dishwashing duties
  • availability to obtain food handlers certification within required timeframe
  • ability to operate dishwashing machinery and cleaning chemicals safely

Job Qualifications

  • ability to learn and follow established policy and procedures
  • ability to read and understand written and verbal instruction
  • effective communication skills
  • customer service oriented
  • ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests as required
  • food handlers card within 30 days of hire for Banner Staffing Services team members
  • prior related education and/or experience preferred

Job Duties

  • sets up work station and prepares all assigned foods and nourishments in the correct quantities, following established procedures, portion control and food quality standards
  • cleans and sanitizes dishes, flatware, trays, cups, glasses and cooking utensils
  • also cleans and sanitizes designated equipment and kitchen areas disposing of all waste materials
  • monitors dish machine temperature
  • maintains par levels of foods and/or supplies in assigned areas, orders and/or restocks items in accordance with established routines, rotates food stocks, checks expiration dates
  • checks and records food and equipment temperatures according to defined procedures, and reports any discrepancies to the supervisor
  • may deliver meals, nourishments, late trays and/or tube feedings to units
  • returns excess nourishments as requested
  • may also assist in catering or special event service
  • may handle transactions at cash register (if applicable) and/or cafe
  • interacts with other food service department personnel, hospital staff, patients and families providing good customer service and maintaining sanitation standards
