The role being offered is that of a Dishroom Attendant based at the Grand Rapids Complex, which includes the Van Andel Arena, Acrisure Amphitheater, and Amway Stadium in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of kitchen and food preparation areas to support the smooth operation of events hosted at these venues. The Dishroom Attendant will be responsible for washing dishes, glassware, pots, pans, flatware, and other kitchen items either by hand or using dish machines, ensuring that all items are properly sanitized following health standards. Additionally, the role involves placing clean items in designated storage areas, maintaining cleanliness of the work areas—including floors, walls, cooking areas, and equipment—and managing waste disposal from the dishroom to the dumpster. The incumbent will also clean and sanitize garbage cans, perform other delegated duties, and follow opening and closing procedures as assigned by the Executive or Sous Chef if food and beverage services are involved.

This position requires physical endurance, as it involves standing and walking throughout the entirety of shifts during events, lifting and carrying supplies weighing up to 40 pounds, and performing repetitive motions such as reaching, bending, and squatting frequently. Workers must be adept at handling and working around cleaning chemicals, with an awareness of potential hazards that could include cuts, scalds, burns, and slips or trips. The work environment is often hot and damp, with frequent immersion of hands in water. While no prior experience is required, candidates must demonstrate the ability to understand and follow directions, complete any necessary food service pre-employment training, and collaborate effectively with others while adhering to the company’s Universal Service Standards.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Washes dishes, glassware, pots, pans, flatware and kitchen items using dish machines or by hand
  • Places clean dishes, utensils and cooking equipment in storage areas
  • Cleans work area including equipment, floors, walls and cooking area
  • Ensures all levels for sanitizer on dish machine and pot sinks meet health standards
  • Keeps kitchen ware storage areas clean and orderly
  • Removes trash from dish room and transports to dumpster, cleans and sanitizes garbage cans
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Follows Executive Chef/Sous Chef assignments for opening and closing procedures
  • Keeps work area and equipment neat and clean
