Common Bond Bistro & Bakery is a celebrated establishment that originated in the Montrose area of Houston, Texas. Since its inception in May 2014, it has expanded to 11 locations throughout Houston, becoming a beloved gathering place where the community comes together to enjoy exceptional food, exquisite pastries, and custom cakes. The company prides itself on fostering a welcoming atmosphere where people of all ages, cultures, and beliefs can bond over their mutual love for good food. This dedication to quality and community has positioned Common Bond Bistro & Bakery as a premier destination for casual dining and bakery experiences in the Houston area.
The role of Porter at Common Bond Bistro & Bakery is vital to maintaining the high standards of cleanliness and organization that the company upholds. This full-time position involves comprehensive responsibilities pertaining to the upkeep of the establishment, with a particular focus on sanitation in the kitchen and bakery areas. Starting at $11.00 per hour, the Porter works closely with the Chef or Supervisor to ensure that dishes, plates, and utensils are properly cleaned and sanitized, contributing to a safe and hygienic environment for food preparation and service.
A key aspect of the Porter’s duties includes the collection and washing of used dishes, loading washing machines, and arranging washed items efficiently to maintain an uninterrupted supply of clean utensils during peak hours. The Porter is also responsible for ensuring that bakery areas, including floors, are kept sanitized, and that trash is regularly disposed of to uphold cleanliness standards. Monitoring the operation of dishwashing equipment and promptly reporting any technical issues is essential to avoid disruptions.
Another important function of the role is inventory management related to cleaning supplies. The Porter must inform management of any foreseeable shortages so that necessary replenishments can be made promptly. Additionally, the Porter helps uphold Health Department and Common Bond’s storage procedures by maintaining proper storage of materials and supplies within the establishment. Beyond kitchen duties, the Porter also contributes to the cleanliness of other areas such as bathrooms and office spaces, ensuring a consistently clean and sanitary work environment across the facility.
The ideal candidate for the Porter position is someone who is physically capable of standing for an eight-hour shift and is able to lift up to 50 pounds. Strong teamwork skills and effective communication are crucial, as the Porter must be able to follow oral and written instructions accurately and contribute to a positive team culture. Experience is not strictly required, as learning and adaptability are key, but having a Food Handler’s Card where mandated by local or state health regulations is necessary.
Working hours for this role include varied shifts, encompassing daytime, nighttime, weekends, and holidays, providing a flexible schedule that caters to different availability needs. This position offers benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, an employee discount, and a flexible schedule. Reporting structures include the General Manager, Chef de Patisserie, and Sous Chef de Patisserie, ensuring close collaboration with kitchen leadership to maintain operational excellence.
In summary, the Porter role at Common Bond Bistro & Bakery is essential in maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work environment that supports the delivery of high-quality food and service. This position offers a dynamic and supportive workplace, competitive pay, and comprehensive benefits, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to grow within the food service industry while contributing to a respectful and thriving community-focused brand.
