The Food Preparation Specialist role at Water Street plays a critical part in maintaining the restaurant’s exemplary standards. This position is focused on ensuring excellent food quality by following the "Water Street Way" in recipe adherence, preparation, and presentation. The specialist is responsible for collaborating closely with the kitchen manager to address any food-related concerns and to participate actively in weekly kitchen meetings. They are expected to maintain a clean and organized work area per the restaurant’s hygiene protocols, deliver quality food prep according to recipe standards, and participate in training programs for new kitchen staff. The role also involves managing kitchen station systems and forms, meeting all pars for inventory and supplies, and standing for extended periods during shifts. Working conditions include exposure to heat and smoke, necessitating proper safety measures and maintaining a valid Nueces County Food Handler's Permit at all times. This position requires physical endurance as well as attention to detail to avoid food waste and ensure order accuracy. The role is essential in upholding the consistent quality and guest satisfaction that Water Street is known for in the competitive restaurant industry.

Job Requirements

  • A score of 90% or better on all health department inspections
  • a score of 90% or better on all mystery shopper reports
  • follow all dress code requirements including chef shirt, black pants or approved chef pants, apron, WS hat or hair net, black non skid shoes, no piercings in kitchen, beard guards if necessary, no cell phone use unless on break
  • ability to stand and work for 6 to 10 hours on concrete surfaces
  • ability to lift and carry food items weighing 40 to 75 pounds without assistance and up to 150 pounds with assistance
  • ability to push, pull, and maneuver food items, pots, pans and trash cans weighing 35 to 150 pounds
  • corrected vision and hearing
  • ability to communicate effectively and remain mentally alert in a fast-paced environment
  • obtain and maintain Nueces County Food Handler's Permit at all times
  • adhere to company policies, confidentiality, and operational manuals
  • must wear hair above collar length
  • able to perform tasks such as slicing, cutting, cooking assistance, food order accuracy, inventory, equipment operation and cleaning
  • meet training test accuracy of 90%
  • able to work in environments from 38 to 350 degrees Fahrenheit with moderate to high noise levels
  • must be alert to identify and avoid hazards

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to work A.M./P.M. shifts as required by management

  • ability to learn and train others using Kitchen training manual
  • basic math skills for inventory and record keeping
  • knowledge of health department rules regarding cooking and handling food
  • must be at least 16 years old
  • ability to follow dress code requirements
  • ability to speak, understand, read and write English (except Dishwasher position)
