Hy-Vee is currently seeking a Dishroom Clerk to join the Market Grille department. This role is a non-exempt position offering an hourly wage ranging between $13.00 and $16.25, depending on experience. The Dishroom Clerk plays a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation within the kitchen environment, supporting food service operations by ensuring all dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment are washed and sanitized promptly and thoroughly. This position requires an individual who is able to handle food safely, maintain an organized and neat workspace, and provide friendly, efficient customer service. As a frontline representative of Hy-Vee, the Dishroom Clerk is expected to interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere.

The Dishroom Clerk works under the guidance of various management staff, including the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations and Perishables, and the Food Service Manager, among others. While the role does not have supervisory responsibilities, it involves working closely with coworkers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.

Primary duties involve providing prompt and professional customer service, greeting customers warmly, answering and managing telephone inquiries, and maintaining cleanliness by handling kitchen trash and washing department equipment. The role also requires strict adherence to personal hygiene and company dress guidelines, timely completion of trash removal, and following all company policies and store procedures. The secondary responsibilities of the Dishroom Clerk may include assisting in other store areas and completing special projects as assigned.

The job entails physical demands such as lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and requires activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, and repetitive movements typical in a food service environment. The working conditions include exposure to various kitchen hazards like equipment movement, noise, cleaning chemicals, temperature extremes, and potential electrical shock. Equipment commonly used includes industrial dishwashers, trash compactors, mops, brooms, box cutters, and crushers.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older
  • must be able to physically perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • must have vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision and field of vision
  • must be able to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen

Job Duties

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
  • smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store
  • makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
  • answers the telephone promptly when called upon, and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call including taking customer orders
  • works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
  • takes the department garbage to the compactor or designated area
  • maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress
  • washes department equipment, utensils, dishes, pots, pans, etc.
  • handles food in a safe manner and ensures the work area is always clean and neat
  • removes trash in a timely manner
  • adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines
  • reports to work when scheduled and on time
