Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • two years or more dish room or comparable experience preferred
  • ability to read, write, and speak English
  • ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • physical ability to stand or walk 95 percent of the day
  • ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • capability to push and pull food carts weighing up to 300 pounds
  • compliance with hospital sanitation and safety policies
  • willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
  • flexibility and self-motivation
  • communication skills to maintain cooperative relations
  • ability to accept supervision
  • good hand-eye coordination
  • ability to meet deadlines
  • willingness to handle exposure to communicable diseases and various odors
  • work in temperature-variable kitchen and dish room environments

Job Qualifications

  • high school education
  • ability to read, write, and speak English
  • ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • communication skills to interact with patients, hospital personnel, and coworkers
  • previous dish room or restaurant experience preferred
  • bilingual preferred
  • knowledge of federal, Massachusetts, and Boston City Health Codes
  • familiarity with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals standards
  • ability to work independently
  • good manual dexterity
  • ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • experience working with sanitation and safety procedures
  • ability to work rotating shifts
  • customer service skills

Job Duties

  • Coordinate dish room activities according to departmental policies
  • disassemble and wash patient trays
  • organize and inventory china, glassware, silverware, pots, and pans to maintain service areas
  • enforce hand hygiene and safety procedures
  • operate and maintain dish room equipment including dishwashers and power washers
  • clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and floors
  • manage garbage removal and sanitation
  • assist with patient tray retrieval and delivery
  • maintain cleanliness on patient floors and kitchen areas
  • assist in training new employees
  • adhere to foodservice and hospital policies
  • participate in HACCP sanitation and safety programs
  • perform other assigned duties
