Job Description

The university seeks a highly skilled and dynamic Director to join its Washington, DC-based team. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Government Affairs, the Director will play a key role in advancing FIU's national reputation by managing and coordinating the FIU in DC briefing center’s operations and programming. This central position involves acting as the university’s ambassador, ensuring an exceptional visitor experience, overseeing event logistics, and maintaining brand consistency for internal and external stakeholders utilizing the facility. The Director will also be responsible for the development and implementation of programming that includes national voter engagement, Washington-based media efforts, and cultivating relationships with key decision-makers and influencers in the capital.

Beyond event coordination and visitor engagement, the Director will serve as a vital academic liaison, collaborating with various university academic units to coordinate seminars, courses, and executive education in the DC area. This includes management of semester-long, short-term, hybrid, online, and certificate programs for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as local alumni and Washington professionals. The position entails leadership responsibilities over assigned staff and requires working closely with university communications and research partners to promote FIU research achievements through updated and innovative content strategies.

Additional key responsibilities include managing the facility’s day-to-day operations, technical maintenance, and upgrades to keep visitor experiences current and high-quality. The Director is tasked with implementing success metrics and performance dashboards to measure operational effectiveness. The role involves budget management, including holding departmental credit card privileges while adhering to all university financial policies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in managing stakeholder relationships in Washington, DC, possess strong project management skills, and have expertise in coordinating complex academic and public programming.

This position offers a starting salary of $100,000, commensurate with education and experience, under an administrative category with work hours from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The role requires flexibility, including the willingness to travel locally and nationally, and the ability to work occasional evenings or weekends. Candidates must undergo an expanded background check as part of the pre-employment requirements. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Eight years of related work experience or master's degree in a related field
  • Six years of related work experience if master's degree is held
  • Understanding of and proven experience with Washington, DC stakeholders and event logistics
  • Experience in project management

Job Duties

  • Acts as the university's experience ambassador for visitors to the FIU in DC briefing center by managing the overall quality of visitor experience, serving as a concierge to internal and external partners who will be hosting programming events at the facility, and ensuring brand consistency and maximum usage of the facility in an effort to increase new opportunities for the university
  • Responsible in developing and maintaining systems to manage the calendar of events, coordinating customer visits and booking and managing events and leading the tour program of the facility
  • Manages the curation, development and production of all FIU in DC programming, signature events and activities
  • Works closely with the Office of University Ceremonies and Events to ensure event standards are met, collaborate with Washington based staff for proper execution of events and activities
  • Supports and collaborates with the university reputation efforts by helping to identify and curate high-profile panelists, guest lecturers, guest lists for specific programs, and managing the cultivation and invitation of priority invitees
  • Positions FIU researchers and faculty on national panels, conferences, symposia and media partnerships, to raise the university's profile
  • Works with the FIU in DC team to manage the day-to-day operations of the facility, supervises assigned staff
  • Coordinates with colleagues for the technical maintenance and upgrades of the facility to keep the experience relevant and up to standards
  • Responsible for leading a standard process for success metrics and creating dashboards to share functional effectiveness in operations
  • Collaborates with other internal academic units in the execution of academic seminars and courses in Washington, DC, including, but not limited to: for-credit, semester-long courses
  • short-term week-long seminars
  • online and hybrid courses for undergraduate and graduate students
  • executive education and certificate courses for the local area alumni and Washington, DC based professionals
  • Works closely with communications colleagues and research partners across the university, to identify and develop updates to reflect new ways to promote and display FIU research products, solutions and services
  • Serves as the university's credit card holder for departmental transactions, adheres to university credit card policies and procedures
