The Director of Security at The Modern Honolulu plays a crucial leadership role in developing and maintaining a proactive loss prevention program designed specifically to ensure a safe and secure environment for all guests and team members. This full-time position comes with a competitive salary range of $95,000 to $113,000 per year and is eligible for a corporate bonus. In this role, the Director of Security is responsible for managing the security team to maintain order throughout the hotel property. This includes interviewing, selecting, reviewing, and counseling security officers while ensuring they are thoroughly trained according to The Modern Honolulu's standards. The Director schedules staff efficiently to balance hotel needs with productivity standards and actively monitors and coaches performance. They must remain vigilant to detect suspicious activities, conduct thorough walkthroughs of the property, and promote workplace safety by ensuring compliance with OSHA standards. The incumbent chairs the Safety Committee, organizes safety meetings, and develops emergency procedures in collaboration with the Managing Director while advising key personnel. The Director investigates incidents including accidents, thefts, and unlawful activities, documenting details and advising management appropriately.

The role also involves tracking safety records, coordinating training programs in areas such as CPR, fire preparedness, and chemical safety, and ensuring the effective implementation of security-related processes including lost and found management, hotel key auditing, and evacuation drills. The Director handles all parking-related issues and communications and participates in required meetings to ensure alignment with organizational policies. Job Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent certification required
  • Five years or more of prior security experience in a similar hotel environment
  • Security guard certification
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong understanding of night club security
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, property management and point of sale systems

Job Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent certification required
  • Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement or related field preferred
  • Five years prior security experience in a similar hotel environment required
  • Strong understanding of night club security required
  • Must have security guard certification
  • Must be CPR, First Aid certified
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Thorough working knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing equal employment opportunity and civil rights, occupational safety and health, wage and hour issues, and labor relations
  • Must have working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), property management systems (Opera preferred), point of sale systems (Micros preferred)

Job Duties

  • Interview, select, review and counsel security officers to maintain order throughout the hotel
  • Train new team members according to all The Modern Honolulu specifications, including documentation
  • Assign duties and schedule staff, balancing needs of hotel and productivity standards
  • Monitor staff activity and coach subordinate performance
  • Be aware of suspicious persons entering, exiting, or loitering around building
  • Conduct walk through observations of entire hotel
  • Promote safe work practices
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and preventative measures
  • Develop and administer safety incentive programs
  • Chair Safety Committee and enforce safety programs, organize and conduct departmental safety committee meetings
  • Develop and revise, as required, along with Managing Director the implementation of emergency procedures, advise key personnel of emergency procedures
  • Investigate accidents, thefts, property loss, and unlawful activities
  • document details and advise management, conducts and performs loss of assets investigations
  • Track departmental safety records and document medically treated and non-treated injuries
  • Coordinate and monitor for efficiency safety and security related programs for overall hotel, including lost and found process, auditing of issuance of hotel keys, chemical, CPR, and Fire Preparedness training, Manager on Duty schedules, evacuation drills, etc.
  • Compile and distribute departmental reports, such as property loss correspondence
  • Coordinates all issues involving parking and related matters, including conducting periodic surveys on the use of parking lots and related parking problems
  • Read incoming correspondence and disseminate pertinent information to staff members
  • Attend and participate in all other required meetings
  • Perform all other responsibilities as assigned
