Job Description

The DoubleTree by Hilton Miami Airport Convention Center is a prominent hotel ideally located just south of Miami International Airport. It is strategically positioned off the Dolphin Expressway adjacent to the Blue Lagoon Business District, making it accessible and convenient for both business and leisure travelers. The hotel boasts 334 well-appointed guestrooms, onsite dining options, a fitness room, an outdoor pool, a business center, and complimentary high-speed internet access. With 24,000 square feet of retail space and 20,000 square feet of hotel meeting and function space, it caters to a wide range of events and gatherings. Additionally, the Convention Center offers an impressive 152,000 square feet of meeting, event, and exhibit space, making it a premier destination for large conventions and meetings in the Miami area.

This opportunity is for an experienced Director of Sales and Marketing who will be a vital part of the hotel’s leadership team. The role is 100% on-site, emphasizing direct involvement and hands-on leadership without any remote work options. This exempt salaried position offers a competitive annual salary range from $125,000 to $135,000 and reports directly to the General Manager and Vice President of Sales and Revenue.

The Director of Sales and Marketing is responsible for steering all facets of sales and marketing operations at the hotel. This encompasses direct sales efforts, sales solicitation, sales administration, and public relations activities, all aligned with the hotel’s high standards. The role involves producing comprehensive annual revenue plans in collaboration with the Executive Committee, managing sales and marketing budgets, and forecasting to ensure financial targets are met or exceeded. The individual in this role will develop and implement strategic action plans that effectively respond to market trends to increase revenue by boosting business volume and optimizing rates.

A core responsibility is cultivating new and repeat business relationships, involving proactive engagement with airlines, travel agencies, commercial entities, private clubs, and professional associations at local, domestic, and international levels. The Director will personally maintain key contacts with event planners, corporate accounts, incentive buyers, airlines, and wholesalers through personal sales calls, phone contacts, and written communications.

This position also requires innovative program development to enhance productivity, focusing on increasing average room rates, occupancy levels, business volume during slower periods, and local food and beverage banqueting sales. Representation of the hotel within the local community through association memberships is essential, as is coordinating and promoting business across the regional DoubleTree by Hilton hotel network.

The Director of Sales and Marketing will interact with worldwide regional sales offices, plan and execute sales trips to major market areas, and attend significant travel functions to promote the hotel's offerings effectively. Leadership of the sales team is paramount, ensuring Sales Managers meet revenue goals while identifying and fulfilling the department's training requirements in line with Hilton Worldwide Training Standards.

Additional responsibilities include personnel management duties such as interviewing, onboarding, appraising, coaching, counseling, and disciplining when necessary. The Director will prepare detailed monthly sales reports and forecasts and engage directly with major event producers to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction. Administrative duties also include maintaining up-to-date mailing lists, organizing key sales and public relations events, and ensuring smooth communication across all hotel departments.

A crucial element of the role is conducting management development and performance reviews for sales managers and office managers, preparing professional correspondence and presentations for executive leadership, and promoting dynamic promotional programs to maximize hotel revenue. The Director will lead weekly Yield Committee meetings to analyze demand cycles and adjust room rates (ADR) appropriately.

The ideal candidate will possess proven management and leadership abilities to drive change, foster continuous improvement, motivate and build high-performing teams, and establish a culture of open communication and collaboration. The role demands strong organizational, strategic, analytical, and communication skills, coupled with proficiency in relevant software such as Delphi, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. This position requires a clear thinker who can tackle problems judiciously, prioritize workloads effectively, and enforce hotel compliance with standards and policies.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Miami Airport Convention Center offers a supportive work environment with benefits including medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401k plan, Hilton travel perks, complimentary lunch, and parking. The hotel is committed to equal opportunity employment, embracing diversity and fostering an inclusive workplace culture. Candidates will join a prestigious brand with a dedicated team focused on excellence and growth within the vibrant Miami market.
