Job Description

Grip is a pioneering company in the cold-chain logistics sector, specifically catering to the direct-to-consumer (DTC) eCommerce brands. Established in 2022 by former executives of ButcherBox, Grip has set out to revolutionize how perishable goods are shipped across the United States. The company integrates cutting-edge technology with a robust, nationwide fulfillment network to provide innovative logistics solutions that address the unique challenges of cold storage and food-safe transportation. Grip's proprietary Smart Logistics Engine is a standout element, meticulously analyzing over 25 million data points daily, including critical factors such as weather conditions, carrier performance, and real-time temperature data. This intricate analysis fuels intelligent, package-level shipping decisions that optimize shipping routes, reduce waste, and ensure product freshness upon delivery. Additionally, the company offers its Pulse Order Management System (OMS), a comprehensive platform that grants brands full visibility and control over their supply chains. This system boasts features like real-time inventory tracking, batch traceability for quality assurance, and seamless integrations with popular eCommerce platforms such as Shopify. This integrated approach eliminates the complexity often caused by juggling multiple third-party logistics tools, streamlining operations for DTC brands. Strategically located temperature-controlled fulfillment centers in New Jersey, Texas, California, Michigan, Florida, and Nevada enable Grip to reach over 80 percent of the US population within 24 hours. This extensive distribution footprint supports the rapid scaling ambitions of client brands, ensuring timely delivery and premium care for perishable products. Grip’s mission is centered around empowering eCommerce businesses to grow efficiently by offering tailored logistics solutions that blend technology, operational excellence, and customer-centric service.

The role of Director of Operations at Grip is a senior leadership position tasked with overseeing and scaling the fulfillment and facility operations across this expanding network. This position holds full accountability for the operational performance of all warehouse sites, focusing on both the day-to-day execution and the strategic long-term growth of the network. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in warehouse management, including organizational design, labor planning, safety compliance, equipment management, and optimization of processes to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This hands-on role requires someone capable of directly influencing operational metrics such as cost structure, operational efficiency, and margin performance across multiple sites. The Director of Operations will be responsible for establishing consistent operational standards, key performance indicators, and performance expectations to ensure service goals and growth targets are met. Key responsibilities include designing and refining warehouse organizational structures, hiring and developing leadership teams, and leading multi-site management efforts. The role also demands strong capabilities in safety program management, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulations, and strategically managing material handling equipment investments. Given Grip's focus, experience with cold storage and e-commerce fulfillment best practices is highly valued. This role is also pivotal in network expansion, leading new site launches from planning through execution, and partnering with other departments such as Supply Chain, Procurement, and Finance to optimize network design and meet customer requirements. The Director of Operations role at Grip offers an exciting opportunity for seasoned professionals seeking to make a significant impact within a rapidly growing innovative logistics company.
