Job Description

Umami Riot is an innovative restaurant group based in Boston, founded by acclaimed Chef Tim Cushman and sake expert Nancy Cushman. The company is known for its unique approach to hospitality, combining joyful service with uncompromising craftsmanship. At the heart of its philosophy, Umami Riot embraces bold flavors, precision, and a deep respect for traditional Japanese foodways, which are all interpreted through a distinctively Bostonian perspective. The group's dynamic and creative environment fosters fearless culinary innovation paired with heartfelt guest experiences. Umami Riot operates multiple dining concepts that emphasize exceptional quality and memorable hospitality, making it a leader in the Boston restaurant scene.

The position of Director of Events at Umami Riot is pivotal to the company's continued success and growth. This role demands a professional who is not only skilled in event sales but also excels in managing and executing events with precision and creativity. The Director of Events is responsible for owning the event revenue across the organization's portfolio, including group sales, private events, and catering. The role requires managing the entire event lifecycle—from prospecting new clients and closing deals to coordinating logistics and ensuring flawless event execution.

As a hands-on position, the Director of Events will be tasked with building strong relationships with corporate clients, VIPs, and local partners to drive consistent business growth. This includes proactive outreach, conducting tours and tastings, crafting proposals, negotiating contracts, and maintaining a robust sales pipeline. Collaboration is key in this role, which means partnering closely with operations and culinary teams to deliver seamless and memorable events that exceed client expectations.

Furthermore, this role involves managing off-premise catering and leveraging third-party platforms to maximize revenue potential. A data-driven mindset is essential, as the Director must forecast, track, and report event revenue and pipeline metrics accurately. Success in this role is measured by pipeline strength, revenue growth, and the quality of event execution. The ideal candidate is equally adept at selling and operational execution and thrives in a fast-paced, multi-unit environment where guest experience and financial performance are both top priorities.

Umami Riot offers a competitive salary range of $55,000 to $65,000 for this full-time role. The company cultivates a culture rooted in respect, creativity, and heart, supporting the professional growth and satisfaction of its team members. Perks include competitive compensation, performance-based earnings, dining discounts across all Umami Riot locations, and genuine opportunities for career advancement. The Director of Events will find a rewarding environment where their contributions have a visible impact on the company’s reputation and success.
