Job Description
The Meritage Resort & Spa, located in the picturesque Napa, California, is a premier destination renowned for its luxury accommodations, world-class amenities, and exceptional event services. Part of the esteemed Pacific Hospitality Group, this resort operates under a family-focused owner/operator model dedicated to long-term growth and team member development. Pacific Hospitality Group is admired for its commitment to enriching people's lives by offering memorable experiences, giving back to communities, and honoring God through its business practices. The company’s guiding principles—integrity, compliance, value creation, principled entrepreneurship, customer focus, knowledge, change, humility, respect, and fulfillment—form the core of its operational philosophy, ensuring sustained excellence and positive workplace culture.
As the Director of Events at The Meritage Resort & Spa, you will hold a vital leadership role responsible for overseeing the entire event services department. This position entails guiding, managing, and developing the events team to ensure flawless execution and guest satisfaction across all catering, conference, and banquet operations. The salary range for this full-time position is $135,000 to $140,000 annually, reflecting the experience and skill needed to excel in this dynamic hospitality environment.
The Director of Events will be instrumental in achieving departmental success by providing strategic direction, coordinating event operations, and evaluating performance for continuous improvement. This leadership role requires managing subordinate event services staff, including interviewing, hiring, training, and performance appraisal, while upholding adherence to organizational policies and legal requirements. You will plan department goals and guide your team toward meeting ambitious targets, ensuring high-quality guest experiences and operational efficiency.
Additionally, the Director will actively pursue new business opportunities by prospecting prospective customers and leveraging network channels to increase catering and conference bookings. This includes conducting market research to identify trends and clients in the catering and conference arena, developing marketing plans, and engaging in community and industry events to enhance the resort's visibility and business reach.
Attention to detail is crucial as you will be responsible for creating and maintaining accurate banquet event orders, ensuring all event specifics, including menu and wine selections, are clear to all involved parties. The role demands excellent communication with clients and internal teams to guarantee precision and guest satisfaction. Budget preparation and financial oversight also fall under your purview, involving revenue forecasting, cost control, and profitability optimization.
The Director of Events embodies the highest standards of guest service by collaborating with other resort departments to exceed guest expectations actively. A commitment to safety is also integral, with responsibility for compliance with PPE usage, OSHA regulations, hazardous materials policies, and overall team safety training. The position requires standing and walking for prolonged periods, managing a fast-paced environment, and occasionally handling physical demands such as lifting and working in varying environmental conditions.
Ideal candidates will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management preferred, alongside at least five years of progressive experience in event services management, including catering, conference, or banquet settings. Proven leadership abilities, strong sales and negotiation skills, and a customer-focused mindset are essential for success. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills ensure the ability to thrive under pressure and respond effectively to guest needs and emergencies.
Joining The Meritage Resort & Spa means becoming part of a thriving hospitality community where your leadership can drive meaningful impact in providing exceptional event experiences in one of California's most coveted destinations. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead and innovate within a supportive, value-driven company committed to long-term team and business growth.
