The role of the Director of Events at Hotel Paso Del Norte is an exciting leadership opportunity for a seasoned professional who thrives on managing and executing high-quality banquet and catering services. This position is pivotal in driving the hotel's event sales and customer satisfaction by overseeing the full scope of catering operations and event coordination. As the Director of Events, you will be responsible for training and supervising the catering staff to ensure seamless function execution. You will develop and maintain positive relationships with clients and internal teams, manage banquet and catering contracts, and contribute to the hotel's profitability through strategic event planning and customer engagement.

The Director of Events will be involved in selecting and monitoring catering staff, organizing staff meetings, inspecting event spaces, scheduling duties, soliciting new business, overseeing group functions, preparing banquet menus and memos, and coordinating closely with various hotel departments to deliver flawless events. The role requires strong sales skills, excellent communication, leadership capabilities, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently. You will utilize your knowledge of food and beverage products and service standards to create an exceptional experience for guests and clients. The compensation ranges from $100,000 to $110,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. This position offers a flexible schedule, including the potential for working nights, weekends, and holidays to meet client needs.

Job Requirements

  • experience with Marriott Hilton IHG Wyndham or Hyatt processes and standards

Job Duties

  • Select train supervise and monitor performance of catering staff in preparation of banquet menus memos and files
  • organize and conduct staff meetings to coordinate successful functions
  • tour and inspect banquet and meeting space daily report necessary repairs
  • schedule and assign specific duties to catering team members for efficient operation and coverage of functions
  • solicit new accounts and review previous banquet files to generate business
  • oversee service of group functions once in house
  • write banquet menus memos and information for VIP guests
  • review and revise catering department guarantee sheets weekly event sheets
  • formulate and revise annual and monthly forecasts
  • negotiate prepare and write contracts and enter information into diary book
  • interact with clients to determine needs and direct staff accordingly
  • respond to telephone and walk-in inquiries
  • work along with conference coordinator to contact clients and finalize BEOs for group functions
  • coordinate with other departments to ensure functions go per plan
  • assure accounting has completed credit applications for direct bill groups
  • complete procedural forms accurately and timely
  • provide weekly event overviews to staff sales and food and beverage meetings
  • prepare monthly sales and catering forecasts
  • enter and delete function book information accurately
  • perform other assigned duties
  • maintain knowledge of food and beverage products preparation and presentation
  • prepare signage for catering functions
  • communicate effectively in English
  • create special themes and menus
  • handle customer service with patience tact and diplomacy
  • develop and deliver sales and catering presentations
  • use computer systems to input and access information
  • understand principles related to products sold
