Job Description

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Villas is a renowned hospitality destination situated in the picturesque Texas Hill Country. Known for its blend of authentic charm and luxurious amenities, the resort offers guests a captivating experience with its expansive 2.2-acre lagoon, newly added Rancher Hall event venue, and a variety of indoor and outdoor event spaces. The resort has embarked on a comprehensive multi-phase renovation and repositioning project that includes refreshed guest rooms, upgraded event spaces, and the addition of five new luxury villas. The Director of Events role is a pivotal leadership position reporting directly to the General Manager. This role oversees the entire Event Sales and Event Planning operations, including supervising Event Managers and administrative staff. The Director is responsible for setting high standards of event management and ensuring continuous staff training to maintain excellence. They play a critical role in achieving both individual and property-wide event booking goals. The Director is expected to be proficient in all aspects of event management, including preparing and presenting proposals and presentations, maintaining organized documentation and reports, and utilizing Hyatt-specific technology systems. Coordination with hotel operations is essential to meet customer service expectations effectively.

This role involves managing short and long-term strategy for the event department, including budget development, marketing plans, and revenue generation targeted at event and catering sales. The Director works closely with the culinary team, especially the Chef, to design creative and innovative menus that meet the skill levels and pricing structures. They also collaborate with the Banquet Manager to ensure high-quality event setups and service. Leading by example, the Director will guide the event team to build lasting customer relationships based on value and trust, supporting the overall achievement of the hotel’s event sales objectives.

Training, supervision, and coaching of event staff to reflect Hyatt’s high service standards are integral parts of this role. The Director administers all phases of the event department, including sales, planning, marketing, service, and administrative procedures. They regularly participate in or lead event meetings, sales meetings, and staff meetings, fostering a collaborative and motivated team culture. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality management or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in event sales and planning management
  • Proven track record of achieving sales goals
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Proficient in event management software and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team
  • Knowledge of catering and banquet operations
  • Exceptional customer service orientation

Job Duties

  • Responsible for short and long term planning and the management of Event Sales and Event Planning
  • Develop and recommend the budget, marketing plans and objectives and manages within those approved plans
  • Maintain or exceed budgeted sales and profits in all event areas
  • Develop and implement effective marketing plans for generating catering revenues
  • Experience evaluating each piece of event business to ensure business can be properly serviced
  • Monitor sales performance of Event Sales Managers
  • Ability to put together creative and innovative menus based on skills of the kitchen
  • Work closely with Chef on pricing specialty menus
  • Train, supervise and work with event staff, in order to solicit and book banquet and event functions, as well as the planning, merchandising and execution of the functions
  • Work closely with Banquet Manager and their team to create and ensure quality levels are being met on a daily basis as well as enhancing overall banquet set-ups
  • Leads event team to build long-term, value-based customer relationships that enable achievement of hotel Event sales objectives
  • Administer all phases of the event department, including but not limited to sales, planning, marketing, servicing and administrative procedures
  • Coach and counsel employees to reflect Hyatt service standards and procedures
