Job Description
The Store Support Center located at 600 Citadel Drive, Commerce, CA, is seeking a highly experienced Director of Food Quality Assurance. This position is pivotal within our corporate structure, overseeing the comprehensive quality assurance functions for our corporate brand products. The Director of Food Quality Assurance will lead a dedicated team responsible for implementing enterprise-wide quality assurance systems that support our mission of delivering safe, compliant, and high-quality food products across all operating companies.
This role requires a strategic leader who can direct and coordinate quality assurance goals in line with company-wide objectives, ensuring our food safety programs meet all applicable State and Federal regulations including FDA, USDA, and EPA standards. The Director will provide technical expertise in developing and maintaining HACCP-based food safety programs, and will also serve as the primary liaison with government agencies to manage compliance with new and existing regulatory policies. A key responsibility includes oversight of the Product Recall Task Force, ensuring swift and effective responses to product recalls and removals to protect customer safety and brand integrity. This role is also crucial in guiding new product development ensuring proper regulatory positioning and packaging compliance.
As a hands-on leader, the Director will also manage training programs for store associates and corporate personnel, maintain quality assurance manuals, and oversee the upgrade of QA lab equipment to align with technological advancements. This position supervises the Corporate Brands Team - Quality Assurance, fostering a culture of excellence through performance management, conflict resolution, and leadership development. The ideal candidate will hold a BA/BS degree in food science, chemistry, or a related field, and possess 8 to 10 years of managerial experience within a corporate brand quality assurance environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license and ability to drive are required. Compensation for this role ranges from $140,000 to $160,000 annually, depending on qualifications, experience, and skills. Job Requirements

Job Duties
- Directs and coordinates the development of Quality Assurance Team goals and objectives in harmony with company-wide and corporate procurement goals and objectives
- Provides technical expertise and assists in store associate training, establishment of sales materials, procedures and guidelines related to food safety HACCP-based programs and compliance to state and local agencies and Health Departments, FDA, USDA and EPA regulations
- Provides technical expertise and assists in the establishment of food safety and HACCP programs in all operating companies
- Performs duties of quality assurance liaison with government agencies and coordinates actions necessary with regards to proposed and new regulations issued by State and local Health Departments, US FDA, USDA, EPA, and Department of Commerce related to foodservice and retail food industry
- Ensures Quality Assurance Department capabilities are in-step with technological advances in food science and industry-related programs including associate developmental training and QA lab equipment upgrade
- Provides technical expertise as a member of company Product Recall Task Force, writes and updates Product Recall Standard Operating Procedure, and coordinates company-wide Product Removals and Recalls
- Provides technical direction in new product development to ensure proper positioning of corporate brand products relative to predetermined tiers and/or brand
- Ensures applicable packaging and labeling meet US FDA, USDA, Department of Commerce, EPA, and State regulatory requirements and maintains product registration
- Directs action on customer complaints for national brand and private label products, provides technical expertise to Customer Relations Coordinator, and coordinates corrective actions with vendors
- Writes and implements quality assurance procedures for monitoring corporate brand standards in all warehouses and directs rejection of non-compliant products
- Establishes product specifications for corporate brand products and updates relative to target brand trends
- Ensures vendors meet regulatory, food safety and Smart & Final requirements, writes procedures for vendor manufacturing facility inspections, and approves new vendors
- Develops materials and participates in product information seminars and cuttings for sales associates
- Participates in Corporate Procurement Team activities
