Job Description

New Mexico State University (NMSU) is a public land-grant research university located in Las Cruces, New Mexico. It prides itself on fostering a vibrant academic environment that supports student success, research, and community engagement. NMSU offers a wide range of programs and services designed to support the diverse needs of its student body and faculty. The university is committed to innovation, inclusivity, and operational excellence across all its departments and auxiliary services. As part of its ongoing mission to enhance campus life, NMSU seeks to employ dedicated professionals who are passionate about supporting student development and campus engagement.

The role of Director of Auxiliary Operations at NMSU is a critical leadership position within the Auxiliary Services division, specifically supporting the 520950-Corbett Center department based in Las Cruces. This full-time, exempt position provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight of various auxiliary functions, including the student union, student housing, conference services, parking and transit, ID card services, mail, and campus storage facilities. The Director will be responsible for driving operational excellence, revenue generation, and implementing innovative, student-centered initiatives aimed at enhancing campus life and community connections.

The salary range for this position is competitive, set between $77,235.92 and $100,406.80 annually, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. The role offers a standard Monday through Friday work schedule from 8 am to 5 pm and is not part of any bargaining unit.

In this role, the Director will lead a team with an emphasis on fostering an inclusive and welcoming student union environment that supports students' personal, social, and academic development. Responsibilities include supervising personnel to ensure proper workload management, training, promotions, policy enforcement, problem resolution, and motivation to achieve high productivity and professional growth. The Director will also oversee the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and marketing initiatives that promote auxiliary services while ensuring compliance with university, federal, state, and local regulations.

The Director will manage budgets, funding, and rate proposals for auxiliary units and collaborate closely with multiple university departments and external partners, such as the City of Las Cruces and the Associated Students of New Mexico State University (ASNMSU). Additionally, the Director will oversee transit services contracted externally and maintain service-level agreements for custodial and maintenance services through collaborations with the Facilities and Services division and Sodexo.

Key competencies required include strategic planning, organizational administration, supervision and training, problem-solving, effective communication, and the ability to maintain productive relationships across university departments and community organizations. The role demands strong leadership skills with the capacity to organize, direct activities, and analyze operational data to improve services. Familiarity with compliance initiatives related to building codes, food codes, and other regulatory standards is necessary.

This position offers a unique opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute significantly to the university's auxiliary operations, directly impacting student experience and campus functionality. The Director of Auxiliary Operations will participate actively in university planning and budgeting processes, ensuring alignment with the institution's comprehensive goals. The candidate will also be a vital member of the auxiliary administrative management team, helping shape the strategic direction and effectiveness of auxiliary services at NMSU.
